That was quite a game last night and certainly lived up to its billing as a pitching duel. Steele went toe-to-toe with Corbin Burnes and ended up with the win, though that pitch count was becoming concerning late in the game.

Today isn't must-win but it's close if the Cubs are interested in a division title. Leaving this series down five with 30 to play is a very deep hole.

If the Cubs realistically want a shot at the division, this is pretty close to a must win. They can't be 5 games back with 31 games to go and expect to make up that much ground unless something very unexpected happens. With that said, for general playoff purposes, there is far less pressure on this game now that the Cubs are a game and a half clear of Arizona and 2.5 clear of the Reds.

I disagree that its must win for the division.  Of course its a bit of a dagger if they are down 5 with 29 to go (I've seen people say 30 and 31 to go but today is game 133), but with 3 H2H games to play, you are really looking at making up 2 games in the next 26 games, then you at least control your destiny going into the final 3 games.  Yes that then requires you to sweep the Brewers which is not at all easy but its in our hands at least.

Also to note, if the Cubs lose today, they will be 4-6 against the Brewers and will need to sweep them to win the H2H tiebreaker.  If they win today, they'll only need to win the final series of the season to win the H2H tiebreaker.

There's some solace to be found in Kyle's numbers against these hitters.  Hopefully he's locked in.

He's definitely been a Brewers tormenter.  They have gotten to him at times, especially 2021 and 2022, but he's mixed in many truly dominant performances against them

Please win this game and then go to Cincy and bury their wildcard hopes. I hadn't realized the Cubs have a chance to really put big distance between themselves and most of the other WC contenders in the next couple weeks. 4 against the Reds, 3 against the Giants and 4 against the DBacks. 7-4 please and thanks.

These players that the Angels put on waivers will end up in the NLWC race . Giolito is going to the Giants or Reds . Clevinger is going to one of those teams as well . Moore or Lopez will go to Mia

Smyly and Taillon will still be on the cubs, sigh

Right, especially with just 3 head to head games left..

Take 2 of 3 here and maybe this will also cool down the Brewers a bit as they lose some momentum
