I've only been half-heartedly paying attention while watching the soccer game, why would we be upset at Seiya, it's not his job to wait on the umpire or change his behavior based on the call

I thought it was fairly obvious it was going to land out of play, but he reached over the fence and grabbed it, costing a run

Not sure if it would mattered but I adamantly thought Wesneski should have been pulled before facing Hayes.  He clearly didn't have it that inning.  I understand the Cubs situation and the need to steal outs but lately it seems like the Cubs are incapable of stealing those extra outs.

That's what the broadcast said, but Cashner did get one start before he was traded.

To double back to this briefly, Verducci said it was the most anticipated debut for a Cubs first round pitcher since Prior, which did lead me to wonder if we'd even seen one since him.

I haven't re-watched every replay angle to know the exact geometry, but I have zero problem with it.  Not fielding the ball because you're assuming it's going to be out of play is exactly the type of attempt that is not only counter to every defensive instinct, but is a big gamble given the circumstances that they're desperate to stop the bleeding of a 4+ run inning.

So this is the 3rd recent game I can remember Leiter coming into the game mid-inning to stop a rally and immediately giving up an RBI hit to the first batter.  One was that Toronto game that we needed the late Morel hit to win.  He came in with 2 outs and a runner on first and immediately gave up a double to tie it.  The other I think was that game against the Royals where they chipped away and turned a 6-1 lead into a 6-4 game.  Possibly just SSS, but maybe he's not the best guy to come into a jam to get a key out.

Now I'll wait for everyone to bring up examples of other times he's come in to get a key out that I forgot about because my brain will only allow me to think about negative outcomes.

I swear to God if I asked TT to prove that 2+2 = 47, he'd somehow find a way to convince me.

I don't have other examples, but the Reynolds double was an 84 EV with a .010 xBA

Regarding the Seiya play, if he lets it go and it bounces out of play, is it automatic the runner that was on first stays at 3rd or can they allow him to score if they think it’s clear he would? I can’t remember how the rule is. And if so, is that why they ruled he could score or did they change their call?
