"okay starting with the Royals series the Cubs really need to rack up some wins"

(Cubs win 3 of 4 and climb to WC2)

"no not like that, elbows are too pointy relievers are getting overused"

it's okay to enjoy the good outcomes, folks

Yes I know I'm a famous overreactor but this doesnt bother me that much.  We're sort of slumping/playing bad but still managing to take advantage of a weak schedule.   It would piss me the hell off if we were losing these games but we're not.  We know this team can play better.  The pitching worries me a little but we're not supposed to be the Braves this year either.

Must Win*

*comfortably

*but also our great RD from earlier in the year doesn't matter because all that mattered was Ws and Ls.

Seriously though, how did Madrigal hit that? .050 xba and he got a double out of it lmao. That was quite a miraculous outcome for us tonight.

Madrigal got 2 doubles tonight and the other was a .180 xba. Both scored runs as well.

Weird ass sport.

Marlins losing 5-0

Rangers and D-Backs scoreless

Reds/Angels postponed

Rangers now up 1-0 in the 7th

Dammit the rangers picked a really annoying time to have their biggest slump of the season

edit: not so fast, rangers up 3-1 in 11th

Nathaniel Lowe comes through with a 2 run double.

speaking of the Rangers I almost used Jason Marquis for Cardinals/Rangers for Immaculate Grid. Then I remembered I associated Marquis with the Rangers because he served up #600 to Sammy.

I ended up going with Brian Jordan!

Rangers trying to blow it again. They're lucky the ball stayed close on the previous pitch because it was close to being 2nd and 3rd. If it was, the game would be tied.

And Pham walks it off for the Diamondbacks Who score 3 to win 4-3. Cubs remain 1 game ahead of the playoff cut line instead of 1.5 games

Maybe it wouldn't have mattered anyway, but intentionally walking the tying run with 2 outs was really stupid.

I had the same thought. No need to walk Ketel Marte there. If you pitch to him and he homers, well, it's still a tie game.

For those not watching, the Rangers had a two run read with two out already, but a man on third. Marte was due up for AZ. Bochum decides to IBB Marte, putting the tying run on first.  Don’t know that that was the right move. Next hitter doubles followed by a two run walk off.

Statistically speaking, I don't see how it could possibly be the right move.  That's not to say that it couldn't have worked, but they decreased their chances of winning the game by walking him. They were lucky that Marte didn't score on the double,

Cubs are going thru hell againts these teams. . Pitching already in a bad place and they are just starting g this brutal part of the schedule with no off days

No excuse not getting another adequate reliever at the deadline.  Yeah you have to overpay, so overpay.  Cuas is a project not someone reliable right now.  The pen looks totally gassed.  Someone is going to get hurt.  If Alzolay or Leiter go down the season is over, and you can't expect them to throw this much through October.
