6-4....just like last Saturday Ross pulls Fulmer with 2 outs and 1 on, brings in Leiter who immediately gives up a run.

Don't care about matchups or whatever, Fulmer was pitching fine, give him the inning.

Just drives me nuts that we led the team with the 2nd worst record in the majors 6-1 in the 5th inning and ended up having to use every single one of our high leverage relievers to (hopefully) finish off the game.  We are in game 2 of a stretch of 27 games in 27 days.  This is absolutely a game we should have been able to avoid pitching all of Merryweather, Fulmer, Leiter and Alzolay.

13 straight Cubs retired by the terrible Royals pen

The offense completely shut things down the last 4 innings.

Yea so much for a bad Royals bullpen..

Said a few times, this offense relies too much on Bellinger and Swanson

Dodgers come back and beat the Marlins 3-1 in game 1, pulling them even with the Cubs again and 0.5 back of the Reds for WC3.

Brewers up 2-1 vs Rangers in the 5th, Diamondbacks up 6-3 against the Padres.

Reds, Phillies, Giants and Game 2 of the Marlins are later today

I'm late to the party, but the timing of the Barnhart move seems strange to me.

I'm all for getting rid of him, and I suppose there's no wrong time to do it, but what changed that finally forced the move?

Of course Witt comes through.  He's 5-8 with a HR, 3 RBI, 3 runs scored and 2 SB this series.

Now the Royals are a single from a 1 run game

And your throw him an 0-2 cement mixer instead of a pitch out of the zone.   Alzolay showed how it's done.

Others have pointed out that he was catching Stroman a lot, and that does not appear to be needed the rest of the season.

I was at the game and just now found out Ben Zobrist was there and shown on the LF board. Minor complaint maybe but I wish they'd show this stuff on the RF board too. I was in the LF bleachers and had no idea what the ovation was for.

They should have played his old walk up music so everyone would know who it is

Reds lose. Cubs temporarily back in WC3.  If the Marlins win tonight (they’re up 1-0) the Cubs will be 0.5 behind.

giants also have a 5-4 lead on Atlanta. If the Braves come back the Cubs would be 0.5 GB Giants for WC2.

I don’t care if anyone reads these updates it just helps me organize all the moving parts 😂

40 games left, im thinking if they go 25-15 and finish with 88 wins, that should be enough for the division,  of course winning at least 4 of 6 remaining versus the Brewers will help too.
