Why are the Cubs giving up on this game? Taillon should not be out there.

Well you see they are on this really tough stretch and only have 2 off days in the next 4 days

Hope they play well against the scrubs and the Brewers struggle against good teams. It often feels like when you get these stretches it doesn’t end up being as easy as it seems

Seems like a bad thing that every single member of the rotation is on a poor run right now.

Steele is still pitching decent with a 3.54 ERA since the start of July, but also gotten a bit fortunate with 8 (!) different unearned runs during that period, 5 of them coming off one error.  His ERA is over 5 during that stretch with less generous scorers calls.  You can't ignore those errors but the fact that he allowed 5 runs to score after the error doesn't help prove that he's pitching well lately.

Stroman's ERA is over 9 over the past 7 weeks, but hopefully the time off gets him right

Smyly (who is expected to return to the rotation 'soon' according to Ross) has an ERA close to 10 over the last 2 months

Hendricks has an ERA of 5.59 over the last 6 weeks

Taillon was pitching well but got lit up today and his season ERA is 5.71

And yet during this stretch the Cubs are playing their best stretch of winning baseball this season.  Offense + bullpen + defense > bad starting pitching

The rotation will likely be their downfall if they dont play above 500 and continue to be a threat for the Division..

They need Stroman to come back and be sharp again along with Steele and at least one other SP to finish the season on top.

Once they brought in Candelario,  I was hoping for a good SP too at the deadline

I knew it was bad but seeing it laid out like that...

Yeah, pitching depth is still the most likely fail state.  I think we have a solid chance to overcome it and get into the playoffs, but it we don't that's probably the reason.

The young guys who are supposed to be next man up are just not there.  Brown, Wesneski, Killian, Wick. None of them seem ready to handle starts in the majors.

So Brewers win

Reds lose game 1

Phillies lose

Giants are winning 1-0

Looking like 3.5 behind in Central, 0.5 behind Marlins in WC, either tied or 1 game ahead of the Reds and either 1.5 or 2.5 behind the Giants

I haven't been paying attention.  Are they still riding the magical 1-run victory train?

They're 27-10 in one-run games. Next best is Baltimore at 22-11.

Cubs are 13-14
