If he continues anywhere near this level for the rest of the season, absolutely yes.

At this point you at least keep him through the end of the season and give yourself a chance to bring him back at 1 year/$16 million, which would be a great deal if he keeps going anywhere close to what he’s been doing over the first 12 starts.

I'm only guessing,  but if Hoyer does decide they're more pretenders then contenders after beating a couple of down teams in the Sox and Cardinals,  he has 3 players he can move and get decent returns for in Bellinger,  Stroman,  and Hendricks.

I think Hendricks is a Cub in 2024

Everyone laughed when I suggested that option might get picked up a couple of months ago

I know this is dangerous to look ahead, but hypothetically if the Cubs win tonight and tomorrow, then taking 3 out of 4 from St. Louis would get them OVER .500 with a day to go before the deadline.  At this point, I think everything, including adding, is still on the table.

I think it's wildly likely that Hendricks is more valuable to the Cubs the rest of the year than he is to any other team.

Put another way, I don't think anyone is offering what it takes to get Hoyer to eat the possibility of having Hendricks on the roster at 16M next year.

I'll be a wet blanket, Hendricks' contact management is real but he's not striking out anyone, and he got a boost by not having to pitch the full season which casts doubt(along with his 2021-2022 struggles) that he'll be able to pull it off again in 2024.  In specific circumstances I could see him coming back, but I'll be disappointed if they pick up the option because I really doubt he gets close to 16 million on the open market.

I just feel the only way he returns is if they decide next season will be a transition year and they go with a couple of their younger SP plus Taillon,  and Hendricks is there to be that vet SP to help them along with limited starts and pass the torch. (sorta speak)

This is the second time in 4 days that we're going to Michael Fulmer in a pretty random situation and I'm seriously starting to wonder if he's getting showcased

I don't see David Ross as a guy who would take kindly to that sort of interference from the front office.

I think it's showing specific urgency from Ross.  He knows that this week is make or break for the last two months, so he's not screwing around with Rucker/Kay even with a healthy lead.  Add in the off day, Hendricks making it to  the 7th, and Stroman/Steele starting the next two days, he's playing to win first and foremost.

*looks around for TT*. They’d probably do a better job of maximizing his value if they just didn’t pitch him.

That part's fine (great even), but he pulled Leiter for Fulmer with 2 out and nobody on in the 8th. That was the weird part to me. I'm sure it's specific batter vs pitch stuff that I'm not privy to, just a little odd from the outside.

I do, I think he does or will do what Hoyer asks, I don't see Hoyer asking him to do much though.
