Really that's the MO of media, most especially the Chicago media, don't know what's it's going to take for it to change.  Fields could go 28-35, 450, 4TD's, 1INT, in leading the Bears to win and we'll still read about the pass that was intercepted along with him missing open receivers on various plays.

That’s complete horsefeathers. It’s not media. It’s Kyle. The media mentioned it but was generally positive in their review.

Bears fans for two seasons: You have to look past the stat lines when evaluating fields.

One good pre-season quarter later: No, not like that!

Yes that's exactly whats happening here.  You nailed it.

Leave it to Bears fans to find negatives about their players successes. Seriously, it was a very short, positive performance . . . it means virtually nothing.

I am a Bears fan but this fanbase has to be one of the worst in the league, between all the bs drunks at the game and the ones bitching about a bad screen pass in the first quarter of the first preseason game that resulted in a TD, its quite comical.

Imagine the furor when he throws an incomplete pass and the world might just implode if he throws an INT, because every pass must be perfect regardless of result.

Is it really the majority of Bears fans doing this or just a few on the internet? I'm not seeing it, by and large.

Its probably just a few on the internet, and I am sure quite a few Score listeners.

"Wow Fields showed that he might be moving past his inaccuracy problems on short throws."

That one throw was pretty bad.

"OMG why are you *focusing* and *bitching* so hard on one bad throw."

A lot of you would make good Republicans.

I hear ya.  I guess there's just not enough to talk about.  He threw 3 passes, one of them was a bit off the mark.  I think the discourse is stupid, we should be hyped up about Fields' playmakers breaking off 2 long TD runs, or how well the defense looked after the first drive, or nothing at all because its a completely meaningless preseason game.

I think the fan base is excited and nervous about Fields knowing that if he's going to be the elite QB we all think/hope he can be, its going to happen this year or never.   If you are on twitter enough you have seen thousands of potshots at Fields for being "just a running back" over the last 6+ months.  Fans are itching to see Fields prove them wrong, so everything he does is going to be amplified until he does prove them wrong.  Then when he does that, other team's fans will find some reason that Fields can't be a top 5 QB, and Bears fans will go nuts over that, and the process will continue until he's as successful as Patrick Mahomes.

Some kind of injury? Or preseason is just stupid anyway

Road preseason game against a team they’ve practiced against all week. Could be a chippy game.

could come back and play a series in the final one at home

I feel like the future (or present) is joint practices to get good preason reps.  Does he even play the one token series in week 3? If he does, it's either as fan service or purely a pregame ritual /dress rehearsal exercise.

If he didn't play in week 3 that would mean almost a month between game action with the bye week before the season.  I don't think thats necessarily a bad thing though.  Like pointed out hes been scrimmaging against the Colts the last few days, he's practicing daily etc.

If anything I consider it a good thing.  The Bears have seen enough and are confident Fields is ready for the season.

All good things to read regarding Fields. If they're not putting him in game situations they are confident in his performance. It's on them.

It hasn't been *that* long since we absolutely torched a coach for not giving a starting QB enough game reps in pre-season.

It's not a good or bad thing. It's just pre-season.

The point of preseason is to see your team/players against other teams/players. The joint practices gave Fields 2 days worth of reps, which is >>> than 12-15 plays during a preseason game.  I'd imagine they'd play starters a bit next week, unless they feel really good about where they are as a team.

Who is "we?"

A decent amount of people here aren't dumb, so I'd imagine many here (myself included) are in the camp of playing anyone important as little as possible in the preseason.  (Also, that's not the same thing as the stupidity of Nagy not giving Fields any reps with the starters in camp.)

If anything, I was annoyed that Eberflus wanted to play guys more.

Anyway, what raw said.

I also think the NFL should move on from preseason games, and just have joint practices. To make up revenue, have joint practices televised at the end of the week (each teams has 2), play them in a stadium, sell tickets and keep the practice structure.  QBs in red jerseys don't get hit. Do 1-on-1s, 7 on 7s, full team, 1s vs 2s, 1s vs 1s, etc. Fans will see more of the top players this way, as starters will be guaranteed to get reps, unlike most of the preseason.

Just go to 18 regular season games (it's going to happen soon anyway), give teams 2 bye weeks. Only do Thursday nights Week 1 (for SB winner) and during byes, nobody should have to play 2 games in 4 days.

Some starters may play a couple series week 3, especially the line.  But I think anyone with the slightest ailment, anyone over 30, and very likely Fields won't be in that group who plays.

Totally agreed on where it's headed. I think you'll still see the HOF preseason game and maybe they'll establish some other games along those vibes, where a team might expect to have a full preseason game every 2-3 years, but otherwise do the idea about televising the joint practice sessions. From a media/streaming standpoint they can create a lot of content around something like that.
