Wait I thought you were a Twins fan?

Twins, Brewers, and very fond of the Padres after living in San Diego for eight years. The three places I've spent the most time living.

edit: I guess technically I lived in Los Angeles longer than San Diego but I love San Diego and hate Los Angeles so there you go.

Nope. You're wrong.  Here are nine batters in the inning:

Here's 10 batters:

TT already pointed this out, but this is a good illustration of the logical inconsistency of the argument for 10 being batting around. In that first diagram, it looks like the next inning would start with Madrigal, not Nico. The inning doesn't end on the 9th batter, it ends after the 9th batter. So the line needs to be drawn to Nico, so the next inning would start with Nico. The dots are the players, and the arrows are the ABs, so Nico leads off, the AB taken points to Dansby who bats next, and so on and so forth. So when Madrigal ends this theoretical inning, logically, the AB should complete and the line drawn to Nico, would would start the next batting process in the next inning.

When 10 batters bat, it doesn't look like your second diagram, that diagram would need 2 arrows from Nico to Dansby, since Nico gets 2 ABs.

You bet, the Twins and Brewers being such historically awesome teams with their bazillion rings over the past 30 years.

Look, if you can't see the humor in what is objectively the worst possible answer to the question "What team are you a fan of?", that's on you.

This whole debate feels like a sequel to the Jon Bois "Dumbest Boy Alive" video

When the 59th second is over a minute is completed. Don’t need the 60th second to begin.

When the 9th plate appearance is over the the circle is completed. Don’t need the 10th batter to appear.

Well, you need the 60th second (9th batter), not the 61st minute (10th batter)

The last year I played in a senior men's baseball league (age 31), I was on a team that was way above my talent level. Lots of guys who were former minor leaguers and a couple who made it all the way AAA. The guy who managed the team always made me bunt. I hated him.

I know how Nick feels.

Similar experience different sport:   I once scored a hat trick in a pick-up hockey game populated by ex-college players, a few low-level pros and some Korean national team hopefuls.  I more or less stood in front of the net with my stick down and let them bank it in off me, like a much shorter, fatter Byfuglien.

This is both right and just.

I'm fine with hating los angeles but I can't think of any reason anyone would love San Diego.

It's just a smaller, hotter, less interesting, more conservative version of L.A.

I always figured batting around was the first batter of the inning batting twice.

That was kind of my thought, though I didn't feel strongly about it. However, Bukie and TT I think have won me over to their side.

San Diego's conservatism is one of its biggest drawbacks.

But generally speaking, San Diego is not hotter than LA, as more of it is in proximity to the temperate coast. And it's wayyyyyyy prettier than LA; they're not even in the same category. LA is a few hills with giant basins, San Diego is rolling hills throughout and very pretty. And due to those hills, San Diego doesn't have the "encased in concrete" feel of Los Angeles, which is both more aesthetically pleasing and doesn't try to cook you just because you're walking outside.

The Gaslamp is a great area and San Diego's beaches are more accessible and better.

And it doesn't require three days of driving in traffic to escape San Diego when you just want to drive somewhere for the weekend.
