It's only 2 catchers, Gomes is on the IL with a concussion he got from a hitter's backswing on Monday.

The Cubs are coming off a 1-6 road trip against the Marlins and Nationals and are 4-10 in their last 14 games, but tickets still need to be sold.  Calling up Mervis is a smart marketing decision
