Keim also out in Arizona.

With rumors of Caserio possibly out in Houston, I think all of the top 3 picks could be looking to sell down. I don't know if there's enough helium in Levis or Richardson to see a repeat of 2021, but 1-2-3 QB isn't out of question.. If real buyers emerge.

Wow. Keim out is interesting. Potential landing spot for Sean Payton and his handpicked GM? I have no idea what to think about that Arizona job in general. When do you get Kyler back? Does a HC even want to stake his career to a 5'8" QB? Really weird job opening.

Also, FWIW, I always feel like a college-to-NFL coach should be able to be great going back to college. Especially a guy like Kliff. He can take credit for Mahomes. He knows what it takes to get guys to the NFL level. Seems like a huge sell to recruits.....though I guess at this point, the only true huge sell is the money.

Kliff Kingsbury fired.

Less than a year after an extension.

Bet he has some coaching offsets, so it will be interesting if he hits up the media gigs for a few years (could do ncaa as well as nfl)

Saban will get someone to hire Bill O'Brien and then bring Kliff in as Bama OC. It might as well already be done. He majors in this (no pun intended).

I think the guy who staked his claim to Brees isn't gonna be scared by a short QB. That said, he may not be all about the whole package of Murray. But money and control go a long way.

Murray's contract isn't terrible. His 2024 is guaranteed, and then 2025-27 base guarantees happen a year out. So you're really making a series of 2 year commitments to Murray, but even then those guaranteed salaries aren't terrible to the point you couldn't walk from him any time after 2024. Especially true if Payton learned anything from Loomis.

My first thought, too. It seems so set in stone that it may as well have already happened.

Kingsbury was also the exception in that he wasn't a particularly good college coach either. 35-40 overall, 2 winning seasons out of 6(and none in his most recent 3), never more than 8 wins in a season(his first season). Texas Tech can be hard to recruit to, but not that hard.

He had Baker Mayfield at Tech and ran him off.

All true. He isn't very good. But he's handsome and has swagger. I think he should be able to get a high profile job and at least fake being a decent coach, and he theoretically should be able to recruit.

Is that a bad thing? Mayfield sucks and is a fraud.

So, Steelers have had 3 coaches since when the Beatles were still together and the Texans have had 4 coaches roughly since Trump lost the election. Amazing.

I also wonder who in their right mind would want to coach in college these days. With the portal, you're basically re-recruiting 70 guys every year plus all of the HS recruiting and transfers in addition to all of the alumni ass kissing you have to do. I know you make a ton of money and have an army of assistants, but if you can go be an NFL OC and make a couple million bucks instead of going to deal with all of the nonsense in college, not necessarily sure why you wouldn't just take the OC job.

Yeah that sucks, but college also pays similar money to the NFL and has more job security.

1. coaches keep their job longer. You build up an average or below program, you basically stay as long as you want.

2. if you do lose your job, there's 130 other jobs now instead of 31 others

Nathaniel Hackett, hired as Jets OC. Granted, he did call plays years ago before Green Bay, but famously was fired in less than a season with a potential HOF QB on his team. Seems like a bad hire, but I guess they could be chasing Aaron Rodgers just like Denver did? LOL.

Meanwhile, Byron Leftwich, who actually won a Superbowl as an OC is without a job.

If it's true that Russell Wilson was so clueless that he was literally calling plays from his time in Seattle during the huddle while with Denver confusing everyone, then I'm willing to give Hackett a pass. Pete Carroll certainly didn't seem to miss Russell at all and made it pretty clear.

I hadn't heard that one. But I do recall hearing about this with Favre in New York. Basically had one coach dedicated to translating the plays for him, lol.

Reich leaves me a bit cold. I'd rather have given the job to Wilks.

That said I'm sure I will convince myself between now and September that Irsay was the sole problem in Indianapolis.

B-b-but Reich was the first ever QB of the Panthers! Fan service = wins, right?
