Purdue is terrible but whatever. When the entire division is junk you wind with a mediocre team celebrating their turn to go get slaughtered by the other division that has all the actual football programs of note.

As for the Badgers. Word is we’re hiring Jim Leonhard, even though he’s a holdover from the Chryst failure, even though he’s just lost the biggest game - the one game - anyone cared about him winning this year, and even though he’s never been anywhere other than Wisconsin as a coach. Why the horsefeathers even fire Chryst if you’re just going to stick with his program anyway?

I mean what the horsefeathers are they even thinking?

Rant off.

Leonhard is way more than just a Chryst holdover. He's a 40 year old alum with 10 years or relatively recent NFL experience. His defenses have largely been very good to excellent. Beyond all of this we were in the same freshman history section.

Word is that Aranda was the other coach seriously considered.

I’m sure he’s a great guy. This team needs an offense.

I mean the coach they fired was an offensive guy. But you're right. QB and OL play has been bad recently.

If USC holds on here, do you jump them over Ohio State?

Georgia

Michigan

TCU

USC

??

Yep. I think Georgia and Michigan are in regardless and TCU and USC are in with wins. OSU gets in if USC loses. But if TCU loses and USC wins, you have 12-1 TCU and 11-1 OSU, and I don’t know which one you pick. Neither would be a conference champ.

That's clearly the 4 unless TCU or USC lose. TCU is probably in even with a loss. Michigan and Georgia are absolutely in even with losses barring wildly unrealistic embarrassing blowouts. USC likely gets bounced with a P12 CG loss, and the most likely beneficiary, I imagine, is Ohio State. Honestly there really isn't another obvious option.

If TCU and USC win, then the CFP is easy. If one loses, then it's pick your poison between 1 loss OSU and 2 loss Alabama (or 2 loss Clemson that was already behind both these teams). I can't imagine a scenario where 3 loss LSU gets in even by winning the SEC, so it'd look worse for the CFP to put in Alabama over them. Here's what I expect:

If TCU and USC win:

1. Georgia

2. Michigan

3. TCU

4. USC

If one of TCU/USC lose:

1. Georgia

2. Michigan

3. TCU/USC

4. Ohio State

If both of TCU/USC lose:

1. Georgia

2. Michigan

3. Ohio State

4. TCU

They’re not supposed to do this but I think the committee avoids a Michigan/OSU rematch in the semis. TCU would be 3rd IMO

It's got to be OSU, right? Bama's only going to have one win against a ranked team in Texas who is barely ranked. OSU beating ND is probably pretty close. ND was 15th and will probably drop a couple spots. Texas was 23rd and will probably jump a couple spots. OSU also beat what will be a top-10 Penn State team on the road. OSU's loss is worse by points (by 22 at home vs. by 4 total points, both on the road) but it's also to a better team (top-2 vs. top-10-12ish).

If Bama had pulled out one of those games they'd be ahead of OSU, though they'd also be in the SEC title game in that scenario and would have the chance to play their way in like they did last year.

Yeah but Bama is in the SEC where you have to play the 85 Bears every week

There's only one conference title game next week that has any bearing on the CFP field at all and that game isn't even on Saturday.

It obviously will not happen but I really wish we could just get rid of them with the expanded CFP, replacing them with round 1 that same weekend, rather than shifting the entire calendar of the sport (which is supposedly what they're gonna do) to accommodate money grabs.

(Yes, I know that with the expanded playoff more of those games would matter)

Kind of an odd move for Fickell IMO, but a great one for Wisconsin. He's rock solid and definitely fits with their manball identity in Madison.

Needless to say I’m pretty stoked by this, if it turns out to be Fickell.

There is a recruiting ceiling at Cincy, and Wisconsin is poised to dominate a perennially weak B1G West with a halfway competent coaching staff. I can see the appeal

I only got to see the 2nd half of the UM/OSU game. I’d say they made a statement. The close win against Illinois really helped I think.

This is the best coaching performance in Harbaugh’s tenure. Hat off to him.

No West after next year.

Fickell was just announced as UW head coach. I’m happy. What he did at Cincy holds great appeal for a Badgers program struggling with recruitment providing real benefits on the field. He got a lot out of players without resources. Let’s see what he can do with large University support.

Great hire by UW, should be able to recruit nationally instead of just Wisconsin. Players will have to decide whether to get over Leonard quickly.

This was not a normal Badgers move.

Yeah this is huge. Huge for the Badgers, huge for the conference. When USC and UCLA join we could have all of these coaches in conference:

Lincoln Riley

Chip Kelly

Jim Harbaugh

Ryan Day

Luke Fickell

Matt Rhule

Bret Beileima

PJ Fleck

James Franklin

Sorry if I didn’t mention your coach. If I neglected to, it’s probably because you can’t play offense
