the offense almost doesnt need to be upgraded at this point. maybe accented, better interior OL perhaps, more time developing Fields/Mooney/Claypool/Kmet

it still needs a lot, esp on the OL, and they are absolutely going to have to do a lot, which is what makes this even more exciting

Meatball time:

Need to stay at worst tied with GB on wins the rest of the way so they don't tie or pass the all time win total.

And I wanna beat them like 40-15 in a game Rodgers is still the QB.

Want to beat Jets so Fields collects another 2021 QB name to his W collection.

Want to beat Eagles and Bills cuz it'd be big dick swinging moments.

Can't get embarrassed by the horsefeathering Lions x2, and at this point have to put the lame ass Kirk Cousins and Vikes in their place. They're acting too smarmy.

Gotta cheer to beat the Falcons in the Ryan P v Ryan P battle.

Sorry, I'm rooting for for wins the rest of the way.

....

For draft pick purposes, root for NO over Baltimore tonight. Would keep NOs pick (set to go to Philly) behind the Bears and would boost their second round pick.

Get thee behind me Satan.

We're tripling down. If this is what Fields can do with this ragamuffin band, imagine what he's going to do with multiple elite receivers and the best OL in the league.

I think that's a little extreme. The OLine needs multiple pieces this offseason. We need more than 2 NFL caliber WRs. We lost the game yesterday because of the defense but you saw at the end where the offense falls short. Getsy did a great job calling a nice mix of plays, but most of them were short quick passes designed to get people space to gain yards. There were some deep shots but not many 15+ yard passes to the middle of the field. Fields Y/A yesterday was the 2nd worst in his career (4.4, only the Cleveland disaster last year was lower). It works and I have no issues with it, but when you get to the end of the game and you are still doing that, it says to me that Getsy doesn't trust the offensive line to hold up on any plays that take time to develop. When we did go down the field more, you saw the failure of guys like Brown. Sub out Brown with a competent 3rd WR and the drive probably continues and the Bears get in position for a FG or TD.

I think the short game was also driven a lot by Miami D scheme.

But yea, once you take out all the FA I'm still at 2 OL, WR 3, and RB2 as the major shopping list on O. And that's with not a lot of depth in backup roles either.

And then 5 new additions needed on D, probably all in the front 7, though CB could make a case still.

Then BVA in the draft (will still have plenty of room to add high quality prospects everywhere with the 3 day 1-2 picks, then day 3 is just more depth)

I'm really not impressed with our tackles. The pass-blocking improved noticeably without Borom, and Jones gets beat for at least one sack every single game. "Not terrible for a 7th-round pick" is not what I want out of my left tackle, it's not a position you should be going store brand.

Whitehair is fine and I do like Jenkins as a guard. I'd be fine adding three new pieces this offseason.

Yeah I think its wrong to say the offense almost doesn't need to be upgraded. Yes, they can absolutely move the ball and score effectively with this offense, but it puts Fields at much more physical risk and it makes it very hard to come back if you're behind late. This is a very ball control offense, lots of runs, lots of 6+ minute long drives. That's great if you're ahead, its less good if you're behind.

I expect for the rest of the season they're gonna continue with some variation of this offense and thats good and appropriate. But a more dynamic offense is possible. One thats more sustainable and maintains Fields' health and doesn't rely entirely on his out-of-this-world athleticism, which wont last forever. If he runs this effectively he's bought himself a few years to fine tweak his passing, which is great.

2 in FA and if the draft board falls where you can grab that 3rd upgrade in Rd 1 or 2, go for it, but I don't think they need to force it. Jones with a full offseason program could see a big jump. He was always a big time project and he's frankly held his own for a guy I didn't expect to see turf all year. Even for being a 5th rounder, he was no in anyway supposed to be a high floor, ready to play guy and he already exceeded that expectation.

Also I think the Blind side emphasis is kind of dated, so I'm not overly concerned with LT being a "weak link" if they hit all the other areas strong. Though i don't see why you couldn't put Jones at RT either if your FA OT was more experienced on the left side.

I'd agree. With as much misdirection that gets schemed in today's NFL,tackles and guards need to be able to play both ways. How many teams play strictly drop back passing? Maybe TB? Do the Chargers (I have never seen Herbert play live, so I dont know what they do on O)?

But going back the the offense in general, I think you are looking at Oline upgrades, RB help, and WR, but its a faaar cry from where this team was in week 2, or last year, or even 4 years ago. Justin Fields is just that good.

!!!!

I'm currently tied for 1st (technically in 2nd) with Brady and Cousins at QB in a league filled with Bears fans. So pissed at myself for not picking up Fields when he was available (and picked up for $2) on waivers like 3-4 weeks ago.

I just re-watched the highlights and the difference between the Eddie Jackson "PI" call and the non-call for Claypool is absolutely wild. And there was a reff RIGHT THERE on the play. I will say it....it was not an impossible catch for Claypool. It would have been a very very difficult one, but he did have his hands on it, despite the flagrant interference.

It's the kind of thing that makes people get conspiratorial but it's really just inconsistent incompetence.

Fields is somehow available in my league where I'm in first place. I had half of mind to add him last week, but I have Hurts ans really just wanting to maximize other roster spots and not carry a 2nd QB. But hell, I'm going for it now. If I jinx him, sorry.

Since it's a mid-weekend claim,

Watching VSIN network during lunch, the commentators said for the Ravens to win tonight that Lamar Jackson needs to put up a Fields like performance. The national outlook sees it now too.

Gotta try, but there's like zero chance I get the waiver claim since I'll be last. But maybe theres a 0.0001% chance lol

p/up fields and play him as your rb. 175 yards!

Trust me, I'm aware. Having the double bonus of watching Fields turn into a star for my favorite team and my fantasy team is incredibly fulfilling.

I don't know if there has ever been a Bear that has been top 3 option at any position ever except the defense. Forte was a clear RB1 for awhile but usually in that 5-7 range overall. Marshall was a backend WR1 but I don't think he was ever a top 3 guy.

Also Fields performance was the 75th best performance in fantasy football history (dating back to way before FF was played) and 17th best by a QB (note: Trubisky vs. TB was 65th and 13th respectively).

The reason I love my league is its ridiculous weighted for QBs. In my league Fields outscored Mixon yesterday due to 6 pt passing TDs, and 7 bonus points for rushing for more than 175 yards.

Yeah, they can't build the offense around Fields scrambling for 100 yards every week. He wants to throw the ball down the field, but doesn't have the time. The perfect balance would be a line that allows him to hit guys down the field, and then you compliment that with his ability to scramble for 60 yards on any given play.

Thank Christ you’re not our GM. This is one of the dumbest takes I’ve seen on here in a while.
