Week 1 - 49ers at Bears, Noon CT, FOX

I was waiting for jersey to post this thread. Maybe he was waiting for game week, oh well.

 

The Bears probably aren't that good but there's a lot to look forward to seeing this season. Definitely more than other years where we knew we'd be bad going into it (aka the John Fox years).

 

The line opened in most places at Bears +6.5 and I've seen that line jump to +7 or +7.5. Playing at home against a west coast team with a less experienced QB, I'm tempted to take Bears but its close.

its week 1 and they have a 2 week break, and it’s a 2 hour time difference. I don’t think that’s going to be much of a benefit for this team.

Fields was also decent against their defense last year, FWIW, even with the clown show negligent offensive coaching.

I always looked at this as a winnable game. Lance isn't a rookie, but he doesn't have a lot of snaps in the last 3 years and I think Eberflus can do some things on defense to maybe get a turnover out of him. And if they prevent the big play, they'll have a chance in this game. Home opener. Excitement for new regime. IDK that momentum carries over after 2+ weeks, but Bears coming off of a strong performance and Niners struggled. But even 2020 Jags who went 1-15 won Week 1. So even bad teams can ride the wave of optimism early.

That last preseason game got me regrettably optimistic. Fields looked like he had something figured out.

Probably the best time to play the 49ers. Rather play them now then mid season. I see the line at +7, it probably will go to +6.5 rather than +7.5 barring something injury wise happening between now and 9/11.

I agree that any effect would be lessened in week 1 but I think it can have an effect.

FWIW, I believe in week 1 and the last week of the reg season, there are two early games in every market and two late games in every market that get tv time. And the Bears/Niners game is the Fox early “game of the week”. So unless you live in a specific Fox market of a team playing the early game, you stand a good chance of having aired. I live in southern AZ and I believe I will get to see GB/Minn as the late game on Fox because the AZ Cards are playing the late game on CBS. If the Cards were on Fox, I wouldn’t get GB.

Did you say in another thread that you have Directv? If so, the past two years, they have just given me Sunday Ticket Max for free. I didn't even ask. I just got an email saying it was a gift for being a loyal customer. It was in my "promotions" tab of my gmail, not in my main inbox, so it might be easy to miss. I'm not sure how loyal you need to be (certain number of years as a customer) or if it is partly because I had paid for it some years ago so they knew I might be interested.

I see at least one email was on July 20. Even if you don't get it, Week 1 is always a free preview, so you will at least get all of the games that week. But also, if you have been a customer that long (I think I am about 15 years), you could call and ask for the loyalty department and see if they would give it to you. You could mention you know people that were given it for free.

i also got it free last year and this year. Last year only because they automatically give you sunday ticket when you sign up with them. This year I saw a promo while I was pausing something I was watching. I called and got confirmation.

Kelechi Osemele, who is a Pro bowl guard in 2016 and 2017 coming off an injury where he tore tendons in both knees in 2020, worked out with the Bears last week and tweeted this today:

 

 

He's 33 and hasn't played in 2 years so I wouldn't get too excited but might be good depth to have, and/or another lottery ticket.
