I think there was also a tweet saying that is the most pressures in a game since PFF started tracking them. Only in the biggest game of his career with everything on the line. That's the kind of horsefeathers that makes you a top 3 pick in the draft, and sure enough I saw a mock earlier that had him going number 1.

I think I read that Michigan had zero negative yard plays on Sat also.

Lots of buzz Marcus Freeman will be elevated from DC. Been a fantastic recruiter since arriving and he's receiving a ton of support from former players.

As for Kelly, he sent a late night message to the team through some app they use that was immediately leaked (shows you how he's viewed) and held a 10-minute meeting with the players this morning before bouncing. I guess tigers, no pun intended, don't change their stripes.

Love Marcus Freeman. He'll do well leading and recruiting. A lot depends on who he's able to get around him as far as OC and other position coaches, but he should do well. Former Bears 5th round draft pick, out of Ohio St. Also coached at Cincinnati, so if some coaching dominoes start to fall and Fickell goes to ND and Day wants to test out the NFL (Bears?) then I'd imagine Freeman would have a couple other places interested. ND would be a huge 1st HC job at 35 years old.

This is basically exactly how he left Cincinnati. They still hate him for it, justified or not. That's all I was pointing out.

It's too bad he is leaving, he did a great job at ND. But onward and (hopefully) upward.

I would say that the 2 biggest complaints ND fans had about Kelly in some order were 1) that he gets trucked whenever he plays one of the few ruling-class teams in the country and 2) that he doesn't really live and breathe recruiting (which, of course, helps lead to 1). It still strikes me as odd that LSU would be so hot after someone who fit either of those descriptions, let alone both. But OMC is always talking about how LSU recruits itself, so maybe it won't matter. And given how adept he's become at beating anyone with less talent, that's a good recipe to at least win 9-10 most years.

I mostly agree. 'There is a right way and a wrong way to do this sort of thing. Kelly choose the wrong way. I'm guessing the story got leaked from the LSU side and he might not have had much choice.

I think it's a bad fit for LSU but you can get pretty much any top player from the state if you want them there.

That remains to be seen, but I think it might be a tough start for him at LSU. They've gone from one coach in Les Miles who basically let the players do anything they wanted, to Coach O who had no control over his staff nor his players and was basically a mascot. Maybe they'll respond well, but it is going to be a major change in culture, that's for sure.

Indeed. That may be the most talent rich state in the country and kids growing up in Louisiana are inundated with LSU for their entire lives. Their recruiting ranking the past 10 years: 4, 4, 3, 13, 8, 5, 8, 2, 6, 6.

Their last 3 head coaches have all won National titles and 2 of those coaches were morons. I think he'll do well there.

He might, but Napier is going to pull his share of talent out of the state to Florida.

Riley was smart to get OUT of the SEC while the getting was good. I don't know why Kelly would want to go INTO the SEC a few years before Oklahoma and Texas show up

Because he’s getting paid a metric ton and wants to win a title. He wasn’t accomplishing either by staying at ND.

The sucky thing about all this is that it's going to give credence to the idea that ND can't win a title at all. I agree, and have for years, that ND was never winning a title with Brian Kelly. I do think there's a difference.

Just to name one very recent example, Michigan just straight-up punked Ohio State with a roster that isn't appreciably more talented than Notre Dame's is, at least by recruiting rankings.

If they want a better chance to win a championship, they should join a conference. Like, for reals this time. If they joined the big 10 with a condition being that they get put in the west, they'd have a good shot to be in the title game nearly every year.

I know, I know...traditions, blah blah blah.

Agreed. ND really just makes it hard for themselves for whatever reason. I'm sure Andy will disagree but that's how I see it. They didn't even budge when there was a legitimate proposal for an expanded playoff that benefits conference champions not to mention have bent over backwards to align with a conference and receive virtually all the benefits of being in a conference without actually committing the football team to it.

But gumbo is not spicy. That's why there's hot sauce on the table.

I think you missed the joke.

Clearly. I am a very literal person sometimes. :?
