In retrospect, we should probably have known all along the league's COVID-19 policies were PR window dressing. We're just now seeing that reality. They aren't going to let one of their biggest stars sit the bench, nor are they going to severely penalize one of their most popular franchises. Not over COVID-19.

Apparently the Panthers are meeting with Cam Newton and are expected to sign him.

That's pretty cool and exciting but also super weird. The same dudes who cut him 18 months ago signing him back?

Did Stan Bowman already get a new job?

Signing is done. I'd imagine he'd get at least a couple starts in a few weeks with Darnold out for a while.

Another bad team blowing out a great team. Nothing makes sense

The Rams are a great team?

Clearly not, though they came in with a 7-2 record.

Clearly there are NO great teams in the NFL anymore. Congrats, NFL, your desire for parity has lead to league wide mediocrity

You should e-mail the sports books and let them know that point spreads aren't needed anymore.

Yep, we'll never have a team finish the regular season with 3 or fewer losses again. Just like after the 2014 season when five teams tied for the best record at 12-4. Haven't had a great team since!

I feel like the Rams decided to just sign anyone and everyone in this all-out bid to “win now” and I’m thinking, hey if it was that easy why pay a GM?

I don’t think the Rams are yet a perennial contender like say the Pats were all those years, or the Packers or Saints with Brees. They’re good for a bizarro crap game every now & again.

Anyway I’ll bet the rest of the league studies this game tape very closely because 49ers completely shut down their offense.

Green Bay grifting another 90M out of their fan base by selling their "stock". The fan base is dumb enough to buy all 300,000 shares just to prove they're die hard supporters.

I don't think you can call it grifting. Nobody thinks it is anything more than an expensive souvenir that looks good framed on a wall that makes it not quite as weird to refer to the team as "we".

I'm shocked (and pleased) that they didn't figure out a way to have NFTs involved somehow.

Just because they're relatively upfront about it doesn't make it not a grift.

It's basically soliciting donorations.

…just in time for Christmas. The ultimate Packer fan stocking stuffer.

That's exactly what makes it not a grift.

The more I think about it, the more I believe the people here, especially considering the prevailing political leanings, should appreciate what the Packers stock sale represents.

1) prevents another sucky billionaire from ruining what should belong to the fans

2) prevents the league and said billionaire from moving or threatening to move a team

3) decreases the likelihood of a billionaire from holding a city or state hostage in order to steal tax dollars for a new stadium

4) forces the NFL to disclose financial information that they'd much rather keep secret

5) prevents a meddling owner (Snyder) from getting involved in football decisions

I think all fans should want their team ownership to be structured like the Packers. If the Bears were structured this way, many of you would be happy to become a part owner* for 300 bucks.

*You may say that a Packers shareholder isn't an owner, but if they aren't then who is?

effectively the board of directors

Sure, it would be neat to have every NFL team set up this way, but they can't be. The structure was banned. The BOD electing a president who runs it is a great practice in theory. It works for the Packers, but the stock sales are just gimmicks that really have nothing to do with "ownership".

And who do you think votes for the board of directors? (I know it's largely a symbolic rubber stamping of some local business leader).

Just because it's been banned doesn't mean it isn't the way we should hope all professional sports are "owned".

Kind of weird that no other team can do it, the league banned it....but then they did it again.
