On pace for 59 wins but the schedule is about to toughen up a bit soon.

Yep, thanks to the schedule rework the Bulls have a stretch of 4 games in 5 days next week, 2 of which are against the Nets and Warriors. Pluss they haven't played the Bucks at all yet.

5-5 in the next 10 wouldn't be surprising.

Just looking...we have 47 games left and of them, these are the tougher ones remaining:

Milwaukee x4

Cleveland x3

Phoenix x2

Miami x2

Philadelphia x2

Brooklyn x2

Memphis x2

Golden State

Utah

Roughly 40% of the remaining schedule

Tankathon site has a SOS tracker and has the Bulls remaining schedule as 12th toughest.

Probably should weight it a little since their toughest games are against a division rival and are therefor arguably more important. But Milwaukee has the number 1 toughest SOS remaining. And using the division logic, same issue.

Most of the schedule difference for Milwaukee at this point is that they've already played 13 of their 16 games against the Pistons, Magic, Rockets, Thunder, Pelicans and Pacers (basically the only teams effectively out of contention at this point).

Interesting. Quick count and the Bulls have played those teams 9 times so not too far behind but those 4 extra games might be the difference in winning the division.

man, looking at that SOS link it's really too bad that every Cavs guard aside from Garland had a catastrophic injury, they might've been able to make some real noise

I was just about to post the same thing. Crazy that they've been as good as they've been (look at their SRS rating numbers, they have a sizable lead over the Bulls) despite playing the toughest schedule so far.

I miscounted, they've played 15 of 18 games against those 6 teams (4 vs ORL, 3 vs DET, 3 vs IND, 2 vs HOU, 2 vs NO, 1 vs OKC). They are 12-3 in those games.

The Bulls have played 10 of 18 games against those teams (2 vs ORL, 2 vs DET, 3 vs IND, 2 vs HOU, 1 vs NO). They are 8-2 in those games.

AC in protocols

Eh. Get it out the way now (and hope all the built in protection holds up), and hopefully everyone gets a little better on the defensive end. Should be good for Ayo to keep getting bigger minutes too.

Was he even close to returning from his injury?

i had seen some talk of them targeting this mini break as a chance to get him some extra time and then coming back after that, but i've also heard he wasn't close, so who the hell knows.

Yeah I don't think its a horrible thing to give him a few more days. The new protocols can have him back fairly quickly I believe. Next 3 games are Wizards, Mavs and Pistons. Not that those are guaranteed wins, but he can come back before the Brooklyn/GS games I'd be cool like that

yeah it's obv better to have this happen now than when he is fully healthy and game ready, but to be clear i meant this mini break in the schedule. i had seen some talk of him maybe being ready by monday (2 days ago) and it was like "well if he takes monday's game off then he can rest another 4-5 days and make sure he's good."

it was either on twitter or realgm. couldn't tell you for sure.

Well the opportunity is now there. Wonder if AKME will sign him.

Really sounds like the Bucks did this intending to resign him. Id guess it will all come down to how much he liked playing for the Bucks. Seems like he carved out a nice role, so I bet he stays in Milwaukee. With the Bulls luxury tax situation, can they even offer him more than a minimum salary?

If they wanted to keep him why would they release him now?

Something to do with contracts after a certain deadline have to be guaranteed until the end of the season. The Bucks are in the repeater tax and guaranteeing the contract would commit them to a hefty raise in payroll. I think if they resign him after the deadline it can still be non-guaranteed.

The followup question is why would Cousins readily resign with the Bucks after they wouldn't commit to keeping him the rest of the season? Unclear though if he feels comfortable in Milwaukee and Giannis is pushing to keep him, it would make sense. They are a title contender and he's getting quality minutes there without having the pressure of being the old all-star version of Cousins. I also don't think the Bucks make this move if they don't think they have a good shot at keeping him.
