Cubs next 22 games are brutal

The Cubs are either going to get their horsefeathers together, or they're going to be out of it by Cinco de Mayo

Maybe we’ll get more value starting our sell off in June vs July

It's really possible. I think if nothing else, the Cubs have 10 (!) guys in their walk year that depending on performance could be attractive trade chips.

KB

Rizzo

Baez

Joc

Kimbrel (club option)

Davies

Arrieta

Chafin

Workman

Tepera

If the team is out of it, you probably want to clear the deck a bit in June or early July so you're not juggling ~5 trades the week before the deadline.

Brothers has a nearly 8:1 KBB, could be interesting

Yeah we have him next year as well. I imagine with so may walk year guys, they won't really shop guys controlled beyond this year except for Kimbrel. But Brothers, Trevor Williams, and Contreras are all only under contract through next season so they'd likely be available at least theoretically.

True but there would be heavy interest if he proves to be a versatile multi-inning high-velo LHP. He should be shopped.

Someone has to pitch in the pen next year, too. Heck, if he's really *this* fixed, make him the closer after trading Kimbrel and then you have the option of getting extra value for him if you trade him later.

Kimbrel is in his walk year too. (He might have an option.)

Vesting option for him, but he'll definitely be traded if we're out of it at the deadline and he's still mowing people down

Rex Brothers only has pitched against the Pirates this season. Will be interesting to see just how effective he is when pitching against a non-college team. Hopefully better than the Cubs overall have been against said team.

Exactly half of the Cubs 26 runs over 9 games have come via HR. The Cubs have hit 11 HR this year, 9 solo shots and 2 HR with one man on

Rizzo, Bryant and Baez = 10 LOB, 1 for 9. One helluva core.

Season to date...if you want the big contracts - this is probably not the best way to convince the FO you are deserving.

This team will now proceed to not score the rest of the game. Same movie every season since they won it all, with increasing frequency each year.

This was supposed to be just another classic overreaction by me. How the F did it actually happen? Ridiculous.

Obviously bad that this happened but also that’s alot of baserunners in scoring position. Clearly all that needs to happen is dialing up some Clutch/TWTW

A classic change of scenery may be best for the careers of Baez, Bryant, Rizzo and the Cub organization.

It's amazing that all these lousy free-swingers collectively avoided tripping over their own dicks in the same year to win a ring.

I have a hot take on this: It's not they're free-swingers, it's that they're free-swingers trying not to swing and ending up swinging at the wrong pitches. Going into this game they were tied with the Padres with the lowest swing percent at 42.7. They were also the 4th lowest contact percentage. Seems like they aren't swinging and when they do swing, it's terrible.

Working the count is great and taking pitches and making pitchers work is great in theory, but I don't think this team has the talent to do it and needs to actually be a little more free-swinging, and that this has been a part of the issue for the past few years.

Exactly. Schwarber was kind of the personification of that for me; this team hasn't had an issue with finding or developing guys to be willing to take plenty of pitches...but that patience too often translated to absolutely garbage contact over the last few years.
