The Watson thing is interesting if for nothing more than the fact there's almost no chance they are better than say 6-10 next year. No 1st or 2nd which is well known, but they are also almost 18Mil over the cap. They can cut several players and get 40Mil in cap room, but some of those are pretty important players. Mainly, JJ Watt and Brandin Cooks. Cooks wouldn't normally be a enormous loss, but Will Fuller is also a FA. So, the Texans could go from losing Hopkins to losing Fuller, Cooks and one of the most popular athletes in his city in any US professional sport. Can also cut a couple linemen (which they have been constantly looking for in the Watson era), their starting LB and CB from a bad defense, but those are still guys they have to replace with limited cap space and no picks in the top 65.

So, if you assume they can't possibly bring in enough help to be good next year; and it may take a year or two for their 2022 draft picks to be huge factors, then there's incentive there from Houston's end to just pile up the picks and rebuild the whole thing without wasting 26 & 27 year old seasons of their QB.

Rodgers is putting up an MVP season at age 37. I'm sure they wouldn't throw away a young elite QB to embark on a multi-year rebuild. While an elite QB cannot by themselves make a bad team good, they can vastly accelerate the timeline of a rebuild.

Well, we're all pretty sure they won't do it. I posted a tweet that said they won't. But Watson doesn't seem to be the type of QB that's going to be elite approaching 40. He still uses his legs a ton and there's not much history of those guys with tons of longevity.

Looking ahead to the draft, most mocks I've seen have the Bears taking Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech. Any reason to be excited about that?

Wow I actually found one person on the internet that picks the Bears this weekend straight up. Funny thing is, he's one of the very few people that picked the Titans over the Ravens last January

No. 7 Chicago (8-8) at No. 2 New Orleans (12-4)

Sunday, 4:40 p.m. ET (CBS/Nickelodeon/Amazon Prime)

Latest Odds: New Orleans Saints -10

The fact that an 8-8 team made the playoffs this year is kind of funny, so if you think about it, it's almost fitting that this is going to be the first ever NFL game televised by Nickelodeon. Oh, and if you missed it, Nickelodeon is airing a playoff game this year.

I'm sure you guys already assumed this, but there's a 100% chance I'll be watching that feed of the game. SpongeBob SquarePants behind the field goal posts? Googly eyes on the quarterbacks? I mean, it's almost going to be like watching a normal Bears game.

Although the oddsmakers seem to think this is going to be the biggest blowout of the wild-card round -- the Saints are the biggest favorite of the weekend -- I think his is arguably the most fascinating game. When these two teams met back in Week 8, the Bears took the Saints to overtime before losing 26-23. Chicago lost the game even though Nick Foles got sacked five times while also throwing one of the worst interceptions in the history of football.

If Mitchell Trubisky can avoid making the same mistakes that Foles made the first time around, the Bears should be able to stay in this game and the longer they stay in the game, the better chance they have at an upset. Although 8-8 is an ugly record for a team in the playoffs, being .500 has actually been a good thing in the wild-card round. Since 2000, there have been a total of five teams that went into the playoffs with an 8-8 record and those five teams combined to go 4-1 in the opening round.

Also, no team has mastered the art of the impossible loss quite like the Saints, who somehow find a new, crazy way to lose in the playoffs every year. Last year, it was an overtime loss to the Vikings. In 2018, it was the pass interference no-call loss to the Rams. In 2017, it was the Minneapolis miracle. I mean, I'm starting to think that some Saints fan got drunk in the French Quarter one night and accidentally paid to have a voodoo spell put on the team.

If the Bears do win on Sunday I give them a zero percent chance to win in the divisional round in a game that would be played against the Packers, so please enjoy this game Chicago.

The pick: Bears 26-23 over Saints

Record picking Bears games this season: 11-5

Record picking Saints games this season: 12-4

I’ll take it. There’s one guy picking the Bears.

I thought I saw Nickelodeon listed as a channel broadcasting the game but wasn’t sure. Weird.

So not only do I not get the joy of the Bears drafting my guy, but now I gotta watch him troll us on Twitter :(

Your guy? Who is that?

Also because we're the Bears; watch GB trade for Watson

Watson was the pick I wanted most in 2017 (though I kind of warmed to the idea of Trubisky eventually I still preferred Watson)

Definitely trolling, after what he’s said about Pace not even taking to him before the draft I doubt he’d try to force a trade here specifically. I’m sure he’d play here if the bears did trade for him though

I like Darrisaw, a lot. I think he's a top 10 talent in this draft, and the 2nd best tackle. He's really powerful and athletic. Has footwork issues, but nothing egregious. I think he's every bit as good as the group of 4 OTs that went top 13 last year. So I would be very excited about this pick.

I assume Darrisaw will end up going way too high for the Bears. I think mock drafts are light on him and he’s the type of guy who’ll blow up at the combine.

Yeah, I see him going to one of the OL desperate teams who don't need a QB. If the Jets go Sewell at 2, it wouldn't be horrible (IMO) if the Bengals went after Darrisaw at 5. I think he could be worth it, and a better option than any defensive player or a WR that early.

Helluva game by the Bears future head coach, Brandon Staley.

They should fire Pagano, promote Jay Rodgers and make sure he doesn’t get away like Staley.

Absolutely. Then if they do go after Staley, it's a no-brainer transition to keep Rodgers at DC. And I'd love him to bring Shane Waldron at OC.
