What would a realistic package for Watson be? 3 first rounders at least?

Apparently Rappaport threw out 4-5 firsts?

I'm sure it could be less than that if it was a team with a top 5 pick now. Sitting at 20 likes the Bears probably ups the rest quite a bit.

Sounds right. How about Tua, 3, 36, and a 2022 1st round pick?

guys, this is Houston we are talking about. They gave Hopkins away, they aren't interested in running a competent organization. Dont overpay

The guy who gave him away is gone.

This.

For the record I don’t think Miami even considers moving on from Tua already, but they are one of the few teams with the resources to make it work. And it would amuse me to see Miami trade Houston back their own picks for their top 5ish franchise QB.

I'd use it against them in the negotiations regardless!

honestly tho, what did Cutler cost? wouldn't that be a good precedent for Watson?

Two firsts (one was 18 at the time), a 3rd, and Orton for Jay and a 5th.

Based on talent level alone, Watson should demand more. With the contract and it being a trade demand, that could complicate the return, but I'm not sure to what extent it will.

i'd probably start somewhere around that then.

My initial insitnct was 2 1st and 2 3rds. 4-5 1sts is like Hershell Walker territory (3 1sts and 3 2nds, among some players and other picks). I think if it's more than a net 3 pick loss it has to include picks the other way. So if it rally took 4 1sts, maybe Houston is sending back 2 2nds as well... Something along those lines.

4 firsts would cause me a lot of pain - not sure about that

Yep, so Hou starting at Hershell Walker territory, which would make sense from their standpoint.

I guess Watson has a no trade clause? That gives him some additional leverage. But he ultimately doesn't have a ton else. Will be interesting to see if it progresses at all.

The Watson thing is interesting if for nothing more than the fact there's almost no chance they are better than say 6-10 next year. No 1st or 2nd which is well known, but they are also almost 18Mil over the cap. They can cut several players and get 40Mil in cap room, but some of those are pretty important players. Mainly, JJ Watt and Brandin Cooks. Cooks wouldn't normally be a enormous loss, but Will Fuller is also a FA. So, the Texans could go from losing Hopkins to losing Fuller, Cooks and one of the most popular athletes in his city in any US professional sport. Can also cut a couple linemen (which they have been constantly looking for in the Watson era), their starting LB and CB from a bad defense, but those are still guys they have to replace with limited cap space and no picks in the top 65.

So, if you assume they can't possibly bring in enough help to be good next year; and it may take a year or two for their 2022 draft picks to be huge factors, then there's incentive there from Houston's end to just pile up the picks and rebuild the whole thing without wasting 26 & 27 year old seasons of their QB.

Perhaps Watson has reason to believe all those cuts are coming hence the trade demand.

I wonder what they can get back for Tunsil at this point too?

and on the Bears side, they would suddenly have a QB and surrounding talent to possibly dethrone GB

Bears give up the 3 1st and 3 2nds and Houston gives back 3 3rds and also hires one of the Bears minority coaches as HC so we get comp picks (make sure this isn't put in writing!)

I'd start with "Mr Olsen, I hear you like truckloads of cash? Oh of course this isnt a bribe to try and work myself into position to negotiate a trade, I just like your smile. Oh btw, how IS Mr Watson? uh huh.. unhappy you say? Well, it just so happens I like to trade draft picks myself..."

Rodgers is putting up an MVP season at age 37. I'm sure they wouldn't throw away a young elite QB to embark on a multi-year rebuild. While an elite QB cannot by themselves make a bad team good, they can vastly accelerate the timeline of a rebuild.
