Bears cannot clinch a playoff spot in Week 16, but they can be eliminated with a Cardinals win vs. San Francisco and a Bears loss (or tie)

Rams lose against the Jets. Steelers lose against the Bengals. I would say the Bears need to be careful, but I don't see the Jags giving up the gift they just got from the Jets. Hell, you got the mayor of Jacksonville calling the Jets win the biggest moment in the history of the Jags franchise. Be nice if they can extend the 30 point scoring streak.

Yeah but the mayor doesnt play or coach for the Jags. I'm sure many of the Jags players and coaches know they won't be on the team next year so the benefits of the number 1 pick won't impact them, and they are probably playing for jobs. The Jags played a lot of decent teams close early on in the season. Beat the Colts, lost to Tennessee by 3, Packers by 4, Browns by 2, Vikings by 3. They are not a good team but they shouldnt be taken lightly IMO (not that the Bears will be).

Everybody assumes the Bears will beat the Jags and lose a win and in game vs GB in week 17, but what this post presupposes is this game lines up perfectly as the bed [expletive] that eliminates the Bears from contention while they go on to win the last game of the season.

7.5 points is too much

I’m just assuming they’ll go 9-7 and still miss. These last-team-out scenarios never go our way.

One of my earliest bears memories is listening to this game on the radio and having complete faith that Steve Young and Jerry Rice would save us:

There's been some painful ones,

-The 1995 scenario you mentioned.

-2008 we got the help we needed but then lost to the Texans

-2012 The Bears needed the Packers to beat the Vikings on Sunday Night Football. Packers were playing for a 1st round bye so they had every reason to try to win but they didn't.

-2013 Obviously was a 'win and in' game that we lost.

At least in 1994 we were in a win and in situation and lost, but backed in as we won a tiebreaker over the Giants, and were fortunate to have Atlanta beat the Cardinals who I believe would have won the tiebreaker over the Bears if they won.

that was the first season i followed sports/the bears and, while i remembered narrowly missing the playoffs, i forgot about that whole scenario

I watched the '83,'84,'85 bears on a black and white 13" tv. I was a Steelers fan prior to that, I had blonde hair and so did Bradshaw. Growing up in IL and WP changed my mind.

its puzzling when I read posts here about the '90's Bears. you guys missed how good we really could be.

Youngsters. I had a Halloween costume of the early '70's Bears. I don't recall if the jersey even had a number. I had a Bears helmet though. My favorite players at that time were Gale Sayers, Brian Piccolo, Bobby Douglas, Dick Butkus and Doug Buffone. Piccolo and Sayers was for the movie rather than NFL, since they were really before my time. I would have been 6 in Piccolo's last year and Sayers barely played in the '70 and '71 seasons. 1971 was my first memories of the Bears. Was just looking at Bobby's passing stats. Wow! A whole lot of nothing. But he threw left handed and ran a lot, which I thought was cool at the time. I had a football card of Buffone, and it looked like they took the photo after a game, as his face looked all jacked up. 1975 and beyond is when my focus became complete fandom as Walter Payton made every Sunday a must watch game. Still my favorite RB of all time. Don't think anyone will take that away from him.

ETA: I'm actually thinking that Brian's Song might have been what drew me to the Bears first. I just noticed that movie came out in 1971, which may have even been before the '71 season started.

I started watching football when I was 8. The 1981 Chargers-Dolphins playoff game followed by Montana hitting Clark in the back of the end zone the very next weekend. Two of the greatest NFL games of all time. I was hooked.

From the time I was 11 until I was 18, the Bears made the playoffs 7 times, won 6 division titles, went to the conference championship game three times, and won a Super Bowl.

In the 29 years since, they’ve made the playoffs 6 times.

I remember both those '81 playoff games, but I don't know if I remember watching them at 5 of if I remember them from ESPN Classic or something. I vividly remember watching the '84 Cubs season and the '85 Bears Superbowl (in 1986 technically). But I can't say I vividly remember anything before that. I know I watched football as far back as 1981, but who knows when I became an actual fan.

I think we're about a month in age apart and remember watching sports and still remembering it in 83 although I vaguely remember Vince Evens. For some reason, the 84 Bears hurt more than the 84 Cubs.

This is going to sound so negative but it would be so Bears to stink it up tomorrow. I’m just going to wait for the results of that game first. It’s a tough game for AZ next week though, more so if Murray is hampered in some way.

Bears playoff scenarios

Win 2

Win tomorrow, Lose vs Packers. Arizona loses vs LA Rams next week

If the Rams lose tomorrow and the Bears win, they can get the 6th seed if the Cards beat the Rams.

I don't think the Bears can get the 6th spot because non-division wild card ties go to the head-to-head matchup which the Rams have

Wouldnt it be a 3 way tie with Arizona at that point? I’m not saying your wrong but that could be a factor?

I shouldn't have faith in this team, but I don't see it. Robinson is out for them. Minshew could give them trouble, but don't see it with Glennon starting. I'll be slightly disappointed if they win by single digits.
