Feels like flotsam for flotsam, but hey, new blood

Okay I'm so NBA dumb, I don't even know who those Wizards guys are.

Eta:

Nevermind I remember who Wagner is at least.

I dont know much about Troy Brown in the NBA but I remember him being a highly regarded 5 star prospect that went to Oregon and was drafted mid-first round a few years ago.

AK doing the house cleaning everybody thought was going to happen when he took over, smart move to wait because if not Zach probably would be gone.

Fans expect GMs to create a market out of thin air. The best you can do is be opportunistic, really.

AK was ready to strike always.

2. Kyrie Irving

Damn, that leaves PG and big man depth as 2 areas of weakness for the Bulls. We can get by with Sato and Coby for this season and still make the playoffs I think but we'll see.

Wagner not gonna last long as a Bull -- trying to flip for Daniel Theis

Why are you doing this to me? I've been waiting for a Michigan player to play for the Bulls since Jamal Crawford left.

I mean after the top 3 seeds it's wide open in the East. I'm an NBA idiot, but how is this team not at least playing playoff basketball?

And it sounds like they'll have some cap space. Not necessarily max cap space, but that can always be engineered if the opportunity arises.

Well their bigs suck and they have no PG either

With last year's version of Zach they'd have about 10 wins, if that.

Their bigs are now Vucevic and (allegedly) Theis, which doesn't suck.

They still have nobody to really distribute, so that's still a major deficiency.

Not sure how I feel about Theis for Wagner. This is probably better right now, but I don't see a ton of minutes either way with Vooch, Thad, PWill, and Lauri at the 4-5. Id rather keep the younger guy as depth.

I think attitude/toughness played a role here

You never know how pieces will mesh together. Bulls are starting the day 1.5 games out of a playoff spot and there are a couple other teams currently out of the playoff picture that I'd think will make a run to be in a position to make the playoffs (Indiana and Toronto now that they kept Lowry). Of course there are a couple of teams in the playoff picture that may slide out (Hornets, maybe Hawks?). The Bulls probably will make the playoffs, I just dont think its given.

Getting Vucevic is more about next year and beyond, imo, anyways. It wasn’t necessarily about this year and making a playoff run, sure some experience for the guys would be nice but it’s really a move for the next few years. Lavine, Vucevic and Williams is a nice start for the offseason. Add a PG (Lonzo), and some depth/rotation pieces (maybe trade White and do a S&T with Lauri) and a top 3-5 seed in the East is possible.

Yes if it wasn't clear I was taking about the new version of this team. There's obviously tons of teams in the PO mix, but from a "games behind" metric they were in the thick of it before adding Vucevic.

Yeah this should be enough to keep us out of the lottery this year, so really the only way it could backfire is if the team blows up before 2022-2023 and/or the ping pong balls make that a really high pick (with a potential added wrinkle of the NBA re-allowing high school players into the draft).

Carter still could develop, but don't think his ceiling is greater than Vucevic's present, so taking a shot with the current group (plus hopefully swapping Lauri for a PG) for a few years here.

I also just read that the pick this year is top 4 protected, so this prevents us from really getting burned if the Bulls cant make the playoffs

Both of the picks are top-4 protected, apparently.

This feels like a surprise - after last night's ridiculous loss to Cleveland I would've bet on another tank - but I guess with LaVine only signed one more year, AK was going to have to pick a lane pretty soon anyway, and this is the more interesting one.

Kind of crazy that I was annoyed when the Bulls matched Sacramento's 4/78 offer for LaVine and now he's the cornerstone and almost certainly getting a max extension in a few months.

Can’t extend Zach till next year. You can “renegotiate” his contract this offseason to pay him more money and give him up to 5 years total. You need to be under the cap to do that. And we are currently over. That means renouncing Lauri and trading some combo of Sato, Thad, and Aminu. I think prior to this trade, you had to consider doing that. But now you don’t have to as I think Zach will be happy long term signing in 2022 and knowing we can bolster the roster next offseason more if he waits till 2022 to extend. This is the best part of all this, along with getting a top 25 player to pair with Zach.

I think Lonzo is a great fit now. You have two guys in Zach and Vuc that you are going to run a majority of your offense through. So ideally you want a good defense/shooting PG, which Lonzo has remarkably turned himself into. I think the facilitating aspect is less important now. Also, Lonzo is a great playmaker in transition. Would be fun watching him and Zach on the break. You can move some guys and put together a pretty solid offer sheet that NO definitely doesn’t match.

We now have the current #11 and #16 player in BPM.... add a very good piece (Lonzo?) in the offseason and we’re easily a top 4 team in the East, right on par with Philly and Boston and a notch below the Nets if they get all their personalities figured out at the same time.
