Hooray they did make up for the previous one.

Halfway through the season, they are 7 points clear of a playoff spot.

If they get Dach back and a goalie gets hot, they could be dangerous.

Haven't felt gross enough to dip deep into the bowels of the internet for further Toews info....no point in holding out hope there right?

There has been absolutely zero new information on that front since the initial announcement. He could have anything from long covid to CancerAids

Really really need to make up for the bad loss to Dallas tonight

Nah, you have a playoff spot locked up. The bottom half of the Central is non-competitive

the stars still have a shot at being pretty good. with the games in hand they could still catch the hawks pretty quickly. the hawks look pretty decent but they could still collapse at any moment.

nevermind, they still suck

2-4-1 in their last 7 with a -11 GD. Competition stepped up and the Hawks have not so far

This stretch was always coming. They played the 1st 4 games of the season against TB and Florida and got their asses kicked and then was able to play the rest of the this crappy division for the next month and a half save for 3 games against Carolina. Now they played 5 of 7 against good teams (and I don't think Dallas is as bad as their record indicates) and look like crap again. They have 4 more against TB and Florida this next week, 2 against the Nashville, and then 2 against Carolina before getting another stretch against the crap teams.

The real fun is that they end the season with 6 games against TB(1), Florida (2), and Carolina (3) before the last 2 against Dallas. That'll be a fun stretch, especially since Dallas probably should be fighting the Hawks for 4th in the division by that point (if the Hawks are even still in it).

Well, in 9 days the Jackets caught the Blackhawks. Didn't see that coming

Feels like the Blackhawks played the Lightning 5 times in the last 9 days.

"Sorry for sending you to a tournament for children, by the time you'll be back we'll be in full on desperation mode so get ready for that, but hey, at least I can blame your (totally avoidable) injury for missing the playoffs again"

Sending him to the tournament was probably the right thing to do.

No it wasn't.

Getting additional experience and playing time in a year when they've missed a significant amount of development is an unequivocally bad idea? Are you arguing that purely because of the injury risk or is there something else? Because then I'm going to ask you if no team players should ever be allowed to play in any tournaments whatsoever.

Positives:

- Additional playing time in a year with less development time than normal

- Having that development taking place in a pressurized tournament atmosphere

- Getting your player some additional high level coaching he wouldn't otherwise get

- Building a positive relationship with that player if he wants to play

- Building positive relationships within the sport in general in supporting the tournaments

- Building positive relationships with players in general in supporting their guys

Negatives:

- Injury risk

You can make an argument that the injury risk outweighs everything else, but it really isn't 100% clear that is the case.

I generally agree with your sentiment and add that even the injury risk is more of a short-term concern, and this team didn't have any real short-term concerns coming into the season. Because nobody thought there was any chance of 2021 success. Anything good was gravy. Short of a career ender, who cares if a guy misses time this year. This isn't a pitcher wasting his limited innings on dumb international tournaments.

But I'd also note that the Blackhawks did get a lot of developing time, sneaking into the playoff bubble situation and winning a series. The 2020 season was cut short, but at a time when they were essentially out of the playoff race. They came back and wound up in more "meaninful" games than they would have if covid never happened. The playing time in juniors also basically just cut into practicing with the NHL team. He wasn't going to develop any more by participating in this tournament against kids, getting a handful of games in against lesser competition.

I'd take away each of those top 3 "positives" as more theoretical and not particularly likely to be real. Two weeks with a coach who isn't the coach trying to get a team to buy into his system could be construed as a negative.

I do think those other positives are real though, not the least of which is helping to promote the game/team/player, which is still a thing that matters for this league.

The '21 season is cut short, also. It's not a huge deal, but the injury risk wasn't that substantial, either. It was just bad freaking luck.

Right, but it was a handful of games against lesser competition when he'd otherwise by training with NHLers. He wasn't going to improve his NHL career by participating.

From what I recall, he joined Team Canada late and they named him their captain. He was the only player on team with any NHL experience. You're telling me he was better served playing down in every sense of the word vs spending a training camp with Patrick Kane and a roster full of NHL players?

The head coach coaches Ottawa in the OHL. I hate Colliton, but, no, he wasn't missing out on 'high level coaching he wouldn't otherwise get'.

The last three points are generic at best. Guessing there are plenty of opportunities of players either choosing or not being allowed to play in this, given, again, he was the only NHL player on the roster (none on Team USA either).

pretty much all the good vibes from this team are gone

They are who everyone thought they were, and the schedule caught up.

Yeah it looked and felt unsustainable as it was happening. Was hoping they built up enough of a cushion and good vibes to hang on for a playoff spot but they just arent good enough imo.

The good news for you is that Columbus is stacked with Tampa and Florida games moving forward
