back to back wins in dallas

1 regulation loss in the last 11 games

this team is loaded with young talent. it's all about navigating the bad contracts we still have. seabrook is still an absolute killer.

Just kidding! They're fun to watch. I think the problem they have going forward is that they're loaded with a whole bunch of decent young talent, but they lack the young star-level talent.

debrincat is already an all-star type player. dach certainly has it. strome has as much potential as anyone (but i don't think he'll reach it). beaudin/mitchell/boqvist have all-star potential on the other side. i think "decent" is underselling the situation. they don't have any superstars, but kane still figures to play at a superstar level for a while longer. the problem is that they have several bad contracts that aren't up for 2-4 years.

I can't make any sense of this team right now, but big picture I'm still going with "Not good". Which, yes, is better than "historically bad". But there's just no way the power play stays anywhere near 36% (3rd in hockey), and while I think Lankinen has been a nice surprise and should probably get most of the starts, he's not going to walk into the league and become a top 10 goalie, so our 8th in team save percentage probably isn't going to last. The book is getting put together on him, will see if he can adjust.

They just give up so many shots, every game, to every type of team. While I can squint and see the three offensively inclined young d-men (Beaudin, Boqvist, Mitchell) paired up with Keith/Murphy/de Haan to form a pretty effective group, you're also working against the standard development time for d-men (long), Murphy/de Haan's myriad health issues, and Keith's declining play/effort level. More excited about the future than I was, but don't see this all coming together this year.

Blue Jackets handed you that game in the final few minutes.

You're welcome?

I can't figure out in what universe Foligno would think Kane was his man on the last play.

I can't figure out in what universe Foligno was starting in OT when Laine, Atkinson, Domi, Roslovic, Jenner, Texier, Bjorkstrand, etc. are on the bench.

Hawks somehow with 2nd most points in the NHL. It's because they have played like 4 more games than anyone else, but still.

I saw something that said they are 7-1-1 in their last 9, which seems fake but I can't recall them losing very much lately.

I watched both of the games against the Wings. The Hawks won both, but I really cant say they outplayed Detroit. And Detroit is bad.

I think they are 9-2-4 since they started out 0-3. I havent looked at the advanced stats though, so not sure if its a fluky 9-2-4. That said 4 of those wins were against the Wings who are terrible. Either way theyve been fun to watch

It is, and they....kinda are? Better than expectations for sure, but the general strategy right now seems to be to keep it a very low scoring chance game and then ride out this very hot power play or settle for the coin flip in OT. Which...sure. But not going to last once they go back to playing the top of the division.

Our old friend Artemi Panarin is in some trouble with the motherland. Hope everything is ok. I want to believe the allegations are false given the source but also want to take any allegations of this manner seriously.

the schedule over the next month is pretty crazy. 9 of their next 11 are against TB (14-4-1) and FLA (13-4-3). having said that, florida's goal differential is only 3 better than the hawks'.

columbus is falling off hard, and dallas has like a million games to make up. i think the hawks are maybe the favorite for that last spot, or will be if they can navigate this next stretch without completely falling apart.

I was ready to dispute this, because I think it'll be a minor miracle if they pull double digit points out of those 9 games, but looking at the standings, not sure who else takes that spot. Checked Fanduel for playoff odds and they didn't have any, but I'd probably throw money on Nashville right now. Obviously they've fallen off a bunch from a few years ago, but their current place in the standings is after a lot of Florida/TB games, and I assume they'll have their turn with the bottom of the division soon.
