Guessing that's why they finalized Lemahieu's deal. Bet Kluber brings the Yankees pretty close to but still under the luxury tax.

So it seems like this is how the rest of the offseason is destined to play out?

- Realmuto back to the Phillies

- Springer to the Mets or Jays

- JBJ to whoever loses out on Springer

- Bauer to the Angels

- Astros, Twins, Nats, Giants, Red Sox, and Braves each add one of the mid level bats (Semien, Brantley, Ozuna, etc.)

- A bunch of 2nd tier/bounce back type bats and SPs sign one year deals hoping to cash in next winter

For the Cubs specifically, I expect KB or Willson to go but probably not both. I think they probably add one of those mid-level bats, as well as a SP you don't have to squint too hard to feel good about. Let's say Didi Gregorius and Garret Richards just for an example. And then from there, 3-4 additions in the Kipnis/Jeffress mold. It won't be a good team, but might be enough for this division.

Looks like the Phillies, if they nab Realmuto, are going to push payroll even higher, nearing $200M. I'd imagine that doesn't affect us unless you're hoping for JBJ, CF is the obvious spot for them to upgrade and the Cubs could use one as well.

The Red Sox have asked at least one team for “a younger corner outfielder along with a minor-league pitcher not necessarily on the 40-man roster” as the trade return for Andrew Benintendi, WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford writes.

Ok so Cole Roederer and Michael Rucker?

This sounds like a last gasp to wring an extra couple million out of Philly. I wouldn't be surprised if he signs this weekend.

With multiple teams not spending and the usual suspects, I was wondering if there was a player making more than an entire team and no but it's close

Cleveland Baseball Team 37.5

Mike Trout 37.1

If they move Bryant and Hendricks to Toronto we better be getting one or two of their legacies back. You can squint to understand why we got what we got for Darvish because of his contract, but Hendricks has no reason to be traded other than "Why keep a good player if we intend to suck while he has value" and Bryant, issues aside, is still one of our most valuable trading chips.

Yeah, I think trading Hendricks would be a sign that we're fully turning the page. At that point you've absolutely got to do Contreras as well.

I actually don't like the idea of trading Bryant in that case though. If we're just fully trolling for value, hold onto the one year guys til the summer. At least one of them will go off and be mega valuable in July. Don't settle for modest value here in January.

I'm sure vlad and Bichette wouldn't be on the table and probably not Pearson, but I certainly would love to get something starting with Austin Martin and Simeon Woods-Richardson, grab a third like Manoah and that would be a haul.

Fans overestimate trade values by default and i try to be understanding about the realities involved in getting a trade agreed upon(e.g. Darvish value was fine, just wrong proportions). But if you trade Bryant + Hendricks you have to have multiple really exciting pieces plus multiple others. I’m not completely unconvinced that could happen with Toronto but odds are I’m gonna be unhappy even if I set aside the emotional side of making that trade.

I’ve had a KB and Hendricks for Woods-Richardson, Groshans, Grichuk, and Stripling deal in my mind. Not that it would actually make me excited but I could squint and see how it fits into a 2022 timeline. Another guy in TOR’s system that makes sense is Gabriel Moreno, who could slide in and be a C a year behind Amaya in the system.

Still I go back to the premise that if you trade Hendricks, you need to seriously consider moving all Non-Happ players on the major league roster.

My fever dream know is that the Ricketts trade every one, piss off javy and Rizzo to the point that it becomes impossible for them not to say something and Wrigley in 3/4 empty and so is their overpriced hotel. They can’t make payments and have to sell everything. The MLB owners lose their minds and let Cuban buy the team and we start all over. My fantasy world is so, so much better than the real world.
