I came out of the stands for the super emergency start and now here we are. Putting this up now before I forget.

The White Sox are putting a guy on the mound that is most famous for saying the Astros would repeat as champions because they're not the Cubs... only for his team to be eliminated in their bid to repeat in the exact same round in the exact same number of games as the Cubs did in their repeat bid. There were also most probably cheating while getting beat.

Unfortunately he's also famous for being the exact type of pitcher that the Chicago Cubs can never do anything against no matter what players are on the team.

The Cubs counter with Chicago Cubs legend and postseason hero Jonathan Tyler Lester.

And then they have to try to hit Gio the next day. Sheesh!

In the three game series, which will be a higher number: number of runs scored in the series or number of strikeouts in a single game?

In a sane world the Cubs should lose this one and win the next two pretty handily. But I feel like whenever the pitching matchups are this obvious weird horsefeathers happens.

I miss good Lester

If it weren't so concerning it would amuse me that every time Lester is on a good stretch and stat guys point out he's due for regression, he immediately gets bombed for a while.

Almora is completely horsefeathering useless. Not that wasn’t a hard play, but he’s on the roster to make that play. If he isn’t going to make it he has no use.

I tend to think he could be good still if he embraced being a junkballer. Like he's still 75% FB/Cutter/Sinker and 25% Curve/Change. I'd like him to get that closer to 50/50, primarily at the expense of the four seamer.

He was never good, but he has regressed to a complete liability on the roster. They might as well replace him with a speedster.

This is the worst start I've seen from a starter in quite some time.

Lester obviously gets lit up a few times a season even when things are going well. Hopefully he can recover into something passable because right now it’s a fierce battle between him and Mills for whose rotation spot Quintana gets. Oh yeah and Chatwood gave up like 10 runs in his last start too.

Edit: ok that was hyperbole, obviously Mills is out of the rotation well before Lester. But still

Sure he gets lit up sometimes but 4 bombs and a shot off the CF wall in 4 innings? Usually when he has a line like this it's with 5 seeing eye singles in between the rockets at least.

Quick breeze through his game logs and this was his first time allowing 4 HR in a game in a Cubs uniform.

Lester has had blow up starts like this every year. Is what it is. The offense being shoved around by Dallas Keuchel is more troubling.
We suck ass against LHP though

It would sure be nice if Rizzo got back to his vintage form against them, as well as Baez. It used to be a strength of ours to hit LHP.
