Good for Rea. Will be his first MLB action since 2016. Has had good stuff and was great in Iowa last year. Glad he's getting a look.

Agreed. Led the PCL in ERA last year. It was a pretty respectable number for that launching pad of a league

Curious if someone is hurt or if he's just been killing down in South Bend. If he's looking good out of the pen, swapping out Underwood and Winkler for him and Quintana does quite a bit for the bullpen. Also gives ~2 weeks to evaluate what else might be needed at the deadline.

I don't understand DFA'ing Cotton. DFA Winkler or someone else instead.

The Cubs announced a series of roster moves today, courtesy of the Chicago Tribune’s Mark Gonzales (Twitter links). Tyler Chatwood was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, due to a back strain. His active roster spot will be filled by right-hander Jason Adam. In turn, Jharel Cotton was designated for assignment to clear a spot for Adam on the 40-man roster.

I think it means he has been overtaken as the 7th/8th starter. Hopefully that's because Alzolay or somebody else has looked good and rather than Cotton looking bad.

I know it doesn't mean too much, but the few times I watched Cotton pitch, he was getting lit up. Lot of hard contact. Cubs are no worse without him.

Yeah Cotton’s stuff just didn’t look like it was playing up in the pen. Also I remember he was toying with a cutter in summer camp like a few of the other relievers have been featuring. He may have been trying it, but it didn’t look like he was having the same success. Obviously it’s hard to tell the reason since there’s little to no footage out of South Bend, but this one didn’t surprise me either.

Big yikes there.

Is Ian Miller just taking the roster spot of Bryant? Good for him getting the call, hit well in AAA last year and had a good spring from what I remember. (and for me, he's a local kid from Philly area)

Cue the music?

As exciting as this would be, why would Strop drive from Cincinnati to Chicago to sign with the Cubs when the Cubs are in...Cincinnati?

He just came off the IL/needs to sign. Don’t think he’d really be ready to pitch on the MLB team right now. He’d be a SB guy for a bit yet. He probably sucks and is toast so it would make sense to check him out down in SB or at Wrigley with the staff there before throwing him on the 28 man.

about Strop going to Chicago, i'm guessing

a) the Cubs want their Dr.'s to look at him, or

b) he may still own a place here and he's going there

I'm honestly surprised we haven't given Carraway a shot since we're struggling to find a competent lefty.

They basically said he's not getting promoted this year
