Figured there should be a game thread up for the 3 upcoming games. I know the intrasquad games have been televised but it doesn’t feel worthy to discuss until there is another team involved.

Hendricks on the bump tonight at Wrigley vs the White Sox. Game will be on ESPN outside of the Chicago area, Marquee for the 7 people that get the network and the Sox broadcast on NBC Sports Chicago for the rest of us. Will be on 670 as well for your listening pleasure.

Cubs lineup in what might be the first game with a DH in Wrigley Field history (though its possible those old Sox exhibition games back in the day used a DH, can’t remember)

I believe Yu will go tomorrow against the Sox at GRate and then Lester will go Wednesday against the Twins (slotting Chatwood in as the 3rd starter (holy hell how did it come to that?)

Edit: Apparently Happ is in at CF now instead of Albert

Man it’s good to hear Len and JD’s voices.

Also, surprised to see the coaching staff wearing masks. Are they not tested as regularly as the players? Umps too. That’s gotta be brutal for the umps to be out there in masks.

ESPN announcers continue to suck. Not much crowd noise on this feed, though

Surprised PTR isnt asking people like Pink hat guy to donate money in exchange for a cardboard cutout like the Mets were doing on their broadcast

I like Boog, but he’s getting no help with the color guys. Chipper sounds like he just set down the bong before first pitch.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

So the field umps aren’t wearing masks but the home plate ump is.

Also the Cubs feed showed a cameraman wearing a mask with no one within 100 feet of him. Guess that’s a CYA thing by their employer for liability purposes. Don’t envy those dudes. Looks mighty warm up there.

I think they showed the 1B ump wearing them, but the 3B ump definitely was not.

I watched part of the Indians/Pirates yesterday and they mentioned that it’s optional when you’re on the field.

They’re probably just being cautious. It’s not really that much of an inconvenience to wear a mask when you are just standing there. I wear mine outside in hot humid weather and it’s not really a big deal. So for baseball, if you are in a position to wear a mask and it doesn’t affect your ability to do your job, err on the side of wearing it.

I believe everybody allowed in the 'stadium bubble' are tested the same. They aren't tested every day and the testing results take a day or two, so as many peple with masks as possible is for the best, especially the home plate umps that are within 6 feet of two people at almost all times.

I've got Comcast so I'm stuck with the Sox broadcast. It's amazing how much less of a punishment this is than it would have been a few years ago with Hawk. Jason Benetti is no Len, but he's above average and I think he brings out the best from Stone as well.

Benetti is really good. White Sox games are easily tolerable now.
