The Cubs just sent cash to the Padres for the rule 5 draft guy so he doesn't need to make the team/stick.

We traded cash today to the Padres to keep Megill and not have to worry about Rule 5 rules. We pulled him off the 40 man (he still has options) and added Kipnis to the 40 man. Kinda ensures Kipnis makes it and now Megill can be in the taxi squad and opens up a roster spot for another pitcher.

Big fan of this move. I like Megill a lot, but don't love having Megill, Sadler, Underwood all optionless in the opening day pen. Using 50K or whatever to essentially buy 3 minor league options is a no brainer.

Would assume this is mostly the OD lineup except Rizzo at 1B hitting second, Happ in CF and then two of Kipnis/Nico/Vic making up 2B/DH.

Tonight’s exhibition game on ESPN will be blacked out in Chicago, right?

Can't say for sure, but spring training games are generally blackout-free.

Maybe even CSN since a Sox game. But without Len and JD.

Manager David already sick of Almora's horsefeathers and pre-benched him (Happ is now playing CF tonight)

I was thinking the other day they should put stuff in the bleachers that would be fun to get hit by homers, this is close

Grimm made the Brewers, pretty much confirms the Cubs are taking the Central before the pennant and WS unless chaos

Grimm's stuff is entirely too good for his terrible results. I fully anticipate the Brewers making one minor tweak to him and turning him into an All-Star.

Descalso is such a team player getting hurt just before rosters were due.

I think it's hilarious that they just tossed him on the 45-day IL with an injury that absolutely does not require that much time. They're transparently saying, "Oh, thank God we can just get rid of this clown"

A little more detail on the accompanying roster manipulation. I probably would have done Miller instead of one of the relievers, but overall pretty happy with this group

they were probably trying to figure out how to fake a positive covid test for Descalso before he tweaked his ankle last night
