Almora has hit leadoff on one of the teams in all the scrimmages so far. So that’s cool they keep being complete horsefeathering morons with that idea.

Yeah Jordan Bastian said that's he's joined the Cubs Knuckle-Curve fad.

Now that we're all past the incredible weirdness that is no baseball, it is incredibly weird that there's going to be essentially a pennant chase free for all starting in 10 days.

I fully expect somebody like the Pirates or Blue Jays are going to come out of nowhere and make the playoffs in the short season.

Yeah, I’m all-in on Duane Underwood Jr being a high leverage reliever if he’s got this curve working along with the changeup we saw last year.

Looks like Lester's option for next year vests at 74 innings. (6.17IP avg over 12 starts)

They’re piggybacking him, at least early on, with Rea it sounds like and he only went 2.1 innings in his exhibition/scrimmage start. Don’t think he has a real chance to get there if he’s only going 3-5 innings his first few starts.

I still think unless he's just awful the option gets picked up anyways.

$15 mil ($25 option, $10 mil buyout) isn’t going to be nothing in this upcoming FA market. I don’t really know what to expect with how they handle him and the option/buyout.

I'd be surprised if the Cubs opted for Lester and unnecessarily $15 budget hit.

Next year also projects to be 3rd-straight year over the lux line. With both Covid and Quintana's injury, they lost any chance to get under for this year. So I'd guess they may not be eager to go over the line again next year, and face triple-over consequences, particularly given the huge financial hit they're already going to take this year.

So I'm predicting that they will not pick up Lester's option for next year.

Anyone watching the scrimmage?

I am. The crowd noise is very pointless, it's basically constant white noise that turns up a little when something happens.

Hendricks is looking very sharp, Darvish command is off.

that's kind of the point, no?

i will say it's not particularly convincing sounding crowd noise most of the time

but the whole point of adding it is white noise
