So working from home has given me time to look at the Bears current roster and how things stack up at the moment:

Offense (24)

QB - 2 - Foles, Trubisky

RB - 4 - Montgomery, Cohen, ______, Nall

TE - 4 - Graham, Burton, ______, Harris

WR - 6 - Robinson, Miller, Patterson, Wins, Ridley, ______

OL - 8 - Leno, Daniels, Whitehair, ______, Massie, Bars, Coward, ______

Defense (26)

DL - 6 - Hicks, Goldman, RRH, Nichols, Urban, Anderson

OLB - 5 - Mack, Quinn, Mingo, ______, Irving

ILB - 5 - Smith, Trevathan, ______, Iggy, Woods

CB - 5 - Fuller, ______, Skrine, Tolliver, Burns, Shelly/Roberson

S - 5 - Jackson, ______, Bush, Lucas, Houston-Carson

ST (3)

Scales, ODonnell, Pineiro

So the way I see it, we have obvious needs for starters at: RG, RCB, SS, TE-Y

A backup/rotation player needed at: RB, ILB, T

My priority:

OL needs a G and a T. Maybe Bars and Coward compete for RG? Loser backs up G/T? This would be a nice time to draft a couple guys

CB could be a competition between Tolliver and Burns, but we have nothing behind Fuller

SS could be Bush, but I like him best as the backup to both SS and FS

TE is a bit tricky, Graham and Burton are both U types, meaning Braunecker is gone. Shaheen, Harris, Holtz would be your Y-type, but I think Shaheen is replaced and we have a new Y-type with Harris or Holtz as #2

WR could use a speed guy, could be Patterson, I guess - could Horsted by the #6 WR to keep him on the roster until next season when we have some more roster movement at TE?

RB needs a real backup to Montgomery that can run inside; Cohen is on the last year of his rookie deal

ILB needs a backup ahead of Iggy, ideally, but he may be good for that

OLB has a #3 in Mingo, but it would be great to get someone ahead of Irving

Like others have said, trading down with the 2nd round picks has to be in play to pick up a 4 or 5. I may look at prior trade downs in the second to see what we could realistically get by trading back, but likely a slight trade down (5 spots let's say) gets us a 4 or 5, a significant trade down could get us a 3 and a 4 or 5.

Bears brought back Bray, which I assume will give him the practice squad job once again unless they draft someone that beats him out in camp.

He won't be practice squad eligible again.

That said, they may still be trying to trade Trubisky. Or even if they don't trade Trubisky, they still don't have a 3rd QB on the roster anywhere. And they may only carry 2, but you need at least 3 in camp and preseason.

Rapaport is reporting Germain Ifedi to the Bears, but Biggs hasn't reported the same thing. Is that really happening?

Ifedi would be a nice addition

Don’t want to hate on my fellow Aggie but he’s been fairly underwhelming in Seattle. He’s not terrible and has the potential to be very good so he should be an upgrade at least.

This was done for James Harden a year or so ago.

I am most shocked to learn that Wisconsin has more strip clubs than people (based on SC per capita numbers).

And I just found out the new CBA allows for one practice squad player with any experience level. Tyler Bray, come on down to the practice squad!

PFF’s biggest draft busts since 2014. Ryan Pace has made 4 first round picks as GM. Guess how many are on this list of 10?

Ouch, that's painful to read

In case you're wanting a Jalen Hurts or someone in like the 4th

Well the Bears don't have anything from pick 50 to 163 in the 5th now. They might move around, and Pace is always game to trade future picks, but as it stands, they could miss on that tier 3 QB prospect too.

Oh that's right, I forgot that Pace decided to flush our 4th away for Foles. Fantastic.

Seems like there could be a good converging of need and BPA in the second and the Bears can add a G and S. But I wouldn't be mad at a QB (perhaps Hurts) in the second either. If a guy like him does start dropping, maybe you can fill a need like G at 43, drop back into the late second with a trade down at 50 to pick back up a 4th, and grab a QB with one of those picks, plus still be able to plug another hole.

It would be really great to grab a developmental OT as well. Just looking ahead to next year the cap is REALLY tight and that's before they probably make some more cap adjusting moves for more space thus year. Two top candidates to clear some space on the cap will be the starting two OT. But all the good OT prospects may be gone by 43.

Supposed to be a really good WR draft. Hopefully they can get a good slot receiver in the 5th who can stretch the field a little. They lack top end speed in the WR group since cutting Gabriel.

Cant believe we only have 2 picks (both 2nds) in the first 4 rounds. At least it means I only have to pay attention for like a 45 minute period in the 2nd round between picks 43 and 50, then can just read about who the Bears drafted with their 5(!) picks in the 5th-7th rounds.

They still have a 4th rounder.

I kind of expect to see them use one of the 2nd's and then trade down with the other. If they can gather an early 4th, I could see them go after Jake Fromm. There does seem to a be lot of interest in the Georgia program. Is it entirely coincidental that there are currently 3 rostered WR's from Georgia?

Gambling on a 4th round QB in the draft or trading that pick for an established starter in Foles. I'll take the Foles trade.

Weird I just looked up an article and it said we only had the compensatory 4th that we ultimately traded for foles.
