The Big East canceled at halftime of St Johns/Creighton, which is weird that they even let it go that far anyway.

I think it actually does a pretty good job of driving home the urgency of the situation. Not that I expect they had that in mind.

Hopefully, an official bracket is still released, it'd be cool to see the Illini finally ended their 7 year hiatus.

I'm hoping for at least a bracket which may not be as far fetched as you'd think because there's a sliver that the tournament could theoretically be played in a month. Maybe it's a pipe dream at this point

Duke just suspended all athletics, said they won't participate in the tournament if it happens, which is looking very unlikely at this point.

Kansas and Arizona State too.

Anyone up for some May Madness?

That would be such a bizarre tournament. After 1-2 months off they all of the sudden are go back to competing in a championship tournament.

It'd be tricky to pull off with seniors graduating and players declaring for the draft too.

And it’s officially cancelled. Feel really bad for seniors out there

I said it somewhere upthread, but the NCAA should grant everyone an extra year of eligibility

That would be interesting. Michigan has like 5-6 guys coming in. How many would decommit because they were planning to be one and dones and Zavier Simpson and Jon Teske just took a huge chunk of their projected minutes?

I wish they could have at least left the door open to playing the tourney at a later date. The NBA is talking about playing this season into mid-August so it’s not like the draft would affect it being played in like June

Since DePaul was the last Big East team to win a game in the tournament, they are BE Tourney Champs right?

Only if IU gets to be the BTT champs! :hello:

Devonte Green and De'Ron Davis become the first IU senior class since 1972 to not play in a tournament game at all in their 4 years.....the day after they probably clinched getting to the tourney.

Surprised they didn't leave the door open, but I guess it would probably be a logistical nightmare re: access to the venues, too. Although I guess they could have maybe found a way to use collegiate arenas, which would have been cool.

Really thought KU was going to win it, although I haven't watched a ton since I have a five-month-old.

I still wish they could at least release a bracket even if just for record keeping reasons. Dayton should be able to say that they were a 1 seed in 2020. Rutgers should say that the last year they made the tourney was 2020, not 1991. Juwan Howard should be able to say he guided his team to the tournament in his first season, etc etc

But now it’s like there was no season at all and all the watching, reading about, discussing was pointless.

I guess it’s not pointless for regular season conference champs or the smaller conference tourney champs, but for everyone else it’s like the season never happened

A fellow Notre Dame fan said to me yesterday that we could've saved ourselves a lot of grief over the repeated close losses this year (they had 8 by 5 or less) if we'd known they meant literally nothing.

Yeah, they should release a bracket just to give the players a tiny reward for their season-long efforts.

I can only hope the rumors of Leitao and extending his contract is just that.

I believe it's a certainty they'll cite reasons such as maintaining the current recruit class along with 2021 commits. Dropped the ball on Pitino, Iona gave him a chance, I find it hard to believe he'd passed on a chance to stick it to the Big East and the rest of college BB had DePaul shown any interest. I also believe Pitino would have retained the current class and quite probably would have enhanced it, his name alone would open doors. But, in their usual dick-less manner they'll do the "safe" thing and re-up Leitao.

I agree with releasing a bracket.

What I’m wondering is, the schools get money based on making the tournament. That money comes from the tv deal. That money supports all the non revenue sports. Did the NCAA just pocket all of that money by not releasing a tournament?

Do they still get money from the TV deal if they don't actually broadcast the tournament?

I highly doubt they would pocket the money. The NCAA is likely in a panic right now about getting a football season in. If they had to cancel the season it would likely have dramatically dire results to all but a handful of programs.
