It's obviously a much different game overall than when Blake came into the league, but Zion's ability to shoot is a big advantage that took Blake years to add to his game (he had 7 total three pointers in his rookie, 82 game season). Granted, everyone is shooting threes now, but Zion is a little different in that regard and gives him a wrinkle beyond "shorter Blake"

Very true, and his big body does allow him to get good post and rebounding position for a shorter guy, ala Charles Barkley. Still, if he wants to maximize his explosiveness and stay healthy for that matter, he needs to shed some weight.

4 made threes regardless, are we sure Zion really has all that great of an ability to shoot? The shot is still ugly, it’s flat as hell and he was WIDE open. He was low 30s% in college from 3and in the low 60s% from the line. The league still wasn’t in a spot with the 3 point shooting proliferation when Blake came in, especially with big guys. But once he started shooting them he’s been in the 30% every year. horsefeathers he was at 36% with 7 attempts a game last year.

yeah lets give it more than one game. his shot looked exactly the same as it did in college and if he shows any proficiency from a spot outside the 3 point line, teams are going to game plan him away from there.

that being said, lots of players are moving to a weird flat-footed three point shot. SGA and Ja Morant are examples. I can't imagine being taught to shoot that way but these shooting coaches are smarter than me obviously

Yeah the form makes no sense to me, but maybe it is taught and by design for unknown reasons. His shot still looks bad, like you said, if he continues to hit them without a guy within 5 feet it will start to be guarded. Let’s see what happens then once he has to shoot off the dribble or is contended. This year, at least, he probably doesn’t have the ball skills/quickness to get around guys all that much if it’s guarded and he puts the ball on the ground unless he gets a more traditional center/5 on him (like a Lopez brother or Dwight or something, but I’m guessing teams go small ball 5 when he’s playing the 5).

Wendell Carter’s inclusion is a bit perplexing. WS/48 of .144,TS% of .592. He seemingly can’t stay healthy and when he is, he can’t stay out of foul trouble. But he’s been a fairly efficient, not terrible, player. Certainly not the cornerstone GarPax and others wanted us to believe, but I never thought he’d be the kind of guy. A good 3rd piece on a really good team who can provide value with a low usage rate.

Carter, Bamba & Mikal Bridges have outstanding defensive PIPM so it's conceivable defense wasn't really favored much on this

I'm amazed by how freaking talented he is, with a surprisingly soft touch around the hoop. Like he has a decent amount of finesse and skill to his game. He's going to be one of the top 5 players in the NBA in a very short while...

Obviously, this clip is just pure hops, going-up-and-throwin'-down lol.

Please stay healthy.

That pass, though. My god.

I'm happy to see Lonzo doing what he's doing this year. He caught a ton of flack in large part because his dad's a horsefeathering lunatic. Was always a great passer and a solid defender, just his shot was abysmal. He's up to 38% from 3 for the year and while he's only at 58% from the line, that's still way up from the 44% he was at in his first two years.
