The Cubs signed 6'9" LHRP Adam Choplick on Monday. He's got some interesting MiL numbers, sounds like a LH Dakota Mekkes:

No one cares about your MLB: The Show franchise

So, just for giggles, let's say the Cubs decide to get under the tax next year at this point. They have enough money coming off the books that it will be easier next year, anyway

They trade some odds and ends to the Rockies for Arenado. They keep Bryant until next offseason. What else could they still do to maximize chances in 2020?

They would have a lineup of:

CF Happ

Rf Bryant

1b Rizzo

3b Arenado

LF Schwarber

SS Baez

C Contreras

2b Bote

Which, okay, that works.

They'd have a bench with Heyward, Souza, Caratini, Almora and Descalso.

SP beyond Yu and Hendricks would still be a question. RP has potential for being anywhere from really good to horrible.

Would you double down on trying to move Contreras for pitching? I don't know that teams are going to trade any mlb starting pitching away at this point of the off-season though.

There's not much left in FA, but maybe a lefty bat at 2b like a healthy Gennett helps balance the bottom of the lineup.

Meh, fun to think about, but won't happen anyway.

The Cubs are a real life baseball team, I swear! Gerardo Concepcion pitched innings for the 2016 team!

You clearly made up those names. Choplick....lol

I say we piss off MLB and go all superteam for a year. Trade for Betts. Trade for Lindor. Trade for Arenado.

CF - Betts

RF - Bryant

1B - Rizzo

3B - Arenado

LF - Schwarber

SS - Lindor

2B - Baez

C - Contreras

Yeah, that's the good stuff. Maybe more right handed hitters than you'd like, but damn. Also, while the OF defense may be subpar, that would be an amazing infield.

Just pitch low in the zone as much as you can

Whoever loses the Mookie sweepstakes may be the only possible market for Bryant.

The Phillies and Nationals are both still realistic options as well. That said I think at this point it's ultimately going to come down to the Dodgers. I think they're going to do something big, and the question is whether that's Betts or Bryant. If they go Betts I'd imagine the Cubs send Quintana somewhere like Anaheim to get under the cap and reevaluate the KB situation in July.

Sounds good to me, but I'm not sure who we are trading for Betts, Lindor, and Arenado.

Almora & Happ, duh.

You know what, no one else has the balls to say it, so I'll be the one to step up: in this scenario, I would also make Bote AND Hoerner available.

We might have to throw in Heyward and Chatwood for some help with the salaries.

Aw hell yeah

Cubs signed INF Corban Joseph to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Joseph, 31, has batted just .170/.213/.261 over 94 plate appearances across parts of three big league seasons. He'll offer the Cubs depth at a few infield positions.

He's well-traveled catcher Caleb's brother, as well.

There goes the Arenado and Lindor dream.

Joseph covers all of our IF needs, but we can always squeeze in another OF.

I keep coming to this thread hoping the Cubs are linked to someone other than a fringe middle relief guy, 4th outfielder, aging out infielder.

Yeah, remember months and months ago when the rumors were that the Cubs didn't (wouldn't) have money to spend and we didn't believe them.

We still need more depth for the 26th man on the roster and a driver for the Iowa shuttle.
