I think Hoerner can be a version of Turner, as an upper end outcome honestly. Their minor league numbers aren’t all that different.

I don't think Hoerner has the approach or the patience, would need to pray to the BABIP gods make some sacrifices. I guess they have their similarities as MiLs in general, but Turner's had more average, patience, power, and speed...

Hoerner at 22 in AA/ML: .284/.322/.399 in 294 PAs

Overal in the minors: .303/.351/.408 over 375 PAs

Turner at 22 in AA/AAA: .322/.370/.458 in 500 PAs

Overall in the minors: .310/.374/.451 over 1224 PAs, stole 77 bases in 90 attempts too

Turner was arguably the best college player in his draft season too, had an elite tool in his speed, whereas Hoerner was a surprise 1st rounder

Yeah Turner is better not doubt and Hoerner doesn’t have his ceiling but I could see Nico being like 80% of him as an upper end outcome. I just think their swing is similar and they have a somewhat similar overall profile.

I know he's not going to win it but man was that a baller performance by Corbin I'd think about giving him some MVP votes.

The guy who gave up 4 runs in 6 innings in Game 4 isn't getting any MVP votes, nor should he. Strasburg was better.

I realize that - hence the first 8 words of the post - also thought it was pretty obvious that I was focusing on this particular outing.

Edited it too late, but I do think the Cubs have a Turner-esque IF prospect offensively possibly just it's not Hoerner

I can squint and see the similarities - they play the same spots, aren't sluggers - but Hoerner's a bottom shelf version of that player. His skillset still most reminds me of Castro, probably a much better conditioned and more receptive to coaching version of Castro

I agree with the Castro comp and that’s probably more fair and think I’ve made that comp before too, Castro with maybe some more walks and better defense (be it at SS/2B/CF). That’s a plenty fine player and one we could use.

Tanking doesn't work. 1 title does not equal a dynasty.

Dynasties are dead in MLB

edit - actually it's a stretch to claim there's been a Dynasty in any american pro sport outside of Brady/Belichek since the late 90's Yankees

You said you know he’s not going to win it which means you were referring to the series MVP award. So why would I think you were talking about just the game?

He was great in the game though.

They don't count either, since they've had to cheat over and over to do so

The Dodgers’ last 4 postseasons:

2016 - lost to the Cubs, who won the World Series

2017 - lost to the Astros, who won the World Series

2018 - lost to the Red Sox, who won the World Series

2019 - lost to the Nationals, who won the World Series

I think what the Astros and Cubs have done since tanking is roughly a dynasty in modern baseball. You got 1 ring, multiple division titles and 90+ win years, MVPs, CY Young’s, ROYs, multiple playoff series wins, etc.

The Warriors from 2014 (or whenever their first title was) until 2018 was a dynasty, IMO.

Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg, and Carlos Correa were all #1 overall picks. Verlander and Bregman were #2's, while Greinke and Rendon were both 6th in their respective years. Max Scherzer and George Springer were #11's (Springer in probably the best draft class of this century), and Trea Turner 13th in his year.

The merits of tanking can be debated, but this series does not make the argument you seem to think it does.

So teams should sign and trade for great players and give big contracts to the ones they draft?

Yup. But in the meantime most (domestic) superstars stars go in the top 10 picks, so teams at the bottom of the standings are going to get first crack at them.

And most of them are going to fail miserably and most of those teams are going to keep picking there year after year and sucking.

Yes, which is why if you want to intelligently make the "tanking = bad" argument in 2019 you point to the Phillies or White Sox rather than the horsefeathering Astros

Actually Big Papi, Washington D.C. is not a city.

What the horsefeathers are you rambling on about?
