did the cubs make a pitcher?

I know it is just a few innings......

Now the question is.....does Q have any trade value and would you try and get something for him and keep Adbert up for the rest of the year?

If the kid can take a spot next year is it really crazy to consider?

At this point I would pay Hamels for a couple more years. We are stuck with Lester and Darvish and we extended Hendricks.

Not saying they pull the trigger but do you at least see if you can get something?

Hendricks is on the IL already and pitchers get injured all the time. When Hendricks comes back and Adbert either stays in the pen or AAA for the rest of the year, that's great because it means nobody else got hurt.

OK. I'll shut up now. This having a young pitcher thing has got me very confused.

MAYBE in the offseason it would an avenue to explore but unlikely. Q has a cheap option for next year and we need SP and augmenting the 5th spot next year with Adbert next year without spending on it can open up some money to build out the rest of the roster on offense or bullpen. I doubt Q can return anything right now that makes us better for the year and it's probably a toss up in the offseason too. There's ways to work Adbert in (regardless of Hendricks health) this year to maximize things.

For a team that was supposed to be 5 games behind the Brewers when we got back from the last road trip, we are in a pretty good spot. The easy June for the Brewers hasn't been so easy. Brewerfan.net is some good misery porn right now.

I can’t help but feel we’re close to being a dominate contender, close to the Dodgers level. I can also see this team imploding too if one or two things go wrong. This is kind of a weird team

Adbert and Kimbrel showing up and consistently kicking ass would go a long, long way to making the former happen.

I figure a Lester trip to the IL, real or made up, is all but an inevitability (and maybe more than once), so that alone is probably going to get him a decent amount of starts.

But yeah, the Cubs are nowhere near any kind of pitching depth where they could consider trading a starter.

And if you really want to keep him up when Hendricks gets back, just go to a 6 man rotation for a while, especially if we have a long stretch with no off days. No harm in giving our guys an extra day of rest each time through.

Definitely not; Lester and Hamels' ages combine to about 143, Darvish is always on the verge of his skeleton busting out of his skin and running away, and now Hendricks is hurt, too. The more rest this rotation can get the better.
