Why not just challenge that for the hell of it and hope they rule he blocked the plate. Got nothing to lose

1000000% if for no other the reason the only 2 times I’ve ever seen it enforced was the 2017 NLCS in favor of the dodgers and when Russell Martin was with the Pirates.

Joe's got costumes to plan, dammit.

Really doesn’t seem like anything has changed with the Cubs offense. Still is well below league average hitting with RISP and I’m not sure if the numbers bare this out but still looks like they have the ability to go in a horrific slump like they did in the 2nd half of last year. Maybe I’m just griping just to gripe and overreacting

Dodgers will get smoked again in the playoffs. Hopefully before the WS so we can get saved from having to watch them fail again.

It sucks we won’t have HFA in a NLCS with them (or incredibly unlikely at least at this point being 9 games worse or so), but I’m really not scared of them. The offense are pretty damn close, our bullpen is better if Kimbrel is remotely good, SP leans Dodgers but it’s close and they’re getting it done with guys who haven’t stayed healthy for years. Just win this stupid division and avoid the WC game.

I’m with the rest of you. I didn’t see an unstoppable force this weekend in the Dodgers. Not saying they don’t get better at the deadline but we didn’t get dominated.

Over the next 31 total we have 4 vs White Sox, 4 vs Mets, 4 vs Braves, 6 vs Reds, 3 vs Padres, 3 vs Giants, and 7 vs the Rats with multiple off days and the ASB. Time to pile up wins and get 18 to 21 of those. Edited by Cubswin11

Cishek doesn’t get the edge like the Dodgers did, Martin practically bunts to foul off pitches, and Bryant makes a horrid throw to the plate. Fun inning.
I know it's not against the rules what he did but I agree about Martin. That was some wack ass horsefeathers and he should have been treated the same as a bunter at that point. Such [expletive] horsefeathers.

Cool road trip where the Cubs hold a lead in 6 out of the 7 games and go 2-5.

Lots of poor luck, lots of annoying things.

Still, this season is not 1/10th as infuriating as last years was down the stretch, so I have my serenity.

After watching Dodger pitching completely destroy our incredibly streaky offense all weekend, I can’t wait to face Giolito this week

Why is Giolito going on Wednesday anyway? Are the Sox only using 4? They’d be better off saving him for the Rangers a team they are battling for the WC.

For some reason the Sox management, like their fans, forget that we are in the other league.

Whatever, we treaded water during this tough stretch. Rest up tomorrow and get on a heater against worse teams going in to the break.

2-5 is not satisfactory, I dont give a horsefeathers what the brewers did. they slump and we cant even be average to take advantage of it. the last several weeks have been damaging.

Honestly for me it’s starting to get there mostly because we brought virtually everyone back from last season and expected different results. Granted I’d take 95 wins every season, but the issues that killed 2018 are still there.

it's weird though, because we got big bounce backs from kb/rizzo/contreras (so far)

Yeah, I really don't see how someone can look at this stretch as OK; being just a bit more shitty than the Brewers in the same stretch is, like, the barest minimum of something good happening. They can't keep being this terrible on the road.

I don’t know it’s an annoying stretch but i could see a hot streak coming but recent seasons says the brewers will definitely mimic it

He wasn’t just talking about the last 7 games. They went 8-6 the past two weeks.

If we're having fun with arbitrary endpoints, they're a delightfully average 8-8 in June. And 5-5 in their last 10.

That’s fine. But a couple weeks ago, the weekend we got swept by the Cards, 17 Seconds was looking at the Brewers upcoming schedule and panicking because of how easy it was. Since then, while they got to play the Marlins, Giants and Pirates, we actually picked up half a game despite them playing a cake schedule and getting three days off.

That doesn’t mean that we’re going to win the division or we’re going to go on a nice run up through the ASB. But the past two weeks have been fine. Not great. But fine.

FWIW, per Fangraphs projections, our rest of season SOS is .496 to the Brewers’s .502. If you go season to date stats only, we’re at .484 and the Brewers are .512.

The gif accurately summed up my feelings: I don't think I could stand this team going through dizzying highs or terrifying lows. Just fine is about all I can stomach. Baseball Purgatory is kinda what they deserve; settle into one of those spots like the Pirates go through where they're technically competitive, above .500 for maybe 2-3 seasons, but not really.

the cardinals and rockies are barely above .500 with run differentials that are barely positive. I dont see how a home stand against them is considered a tough stretch
