Michael Busch was announced as a 2b??? Keith Law thinks he's barely a 1b/LF

Not surprised. Some scouts think he could be passable at 2B with shifting and proper alignments and stuff. I'm not sure if he can stick at 2B, but the bat is legit. This is who I wanted the Cubs to take.

Watching people turn into Comic book guy about the first round pick is one of my favorite traditions.

Definitely. Everyone hated Nico and one year later, he's a top 65 prospect.

I think it's pretty obvious the Cubs think they can get him to have a consistently plus secondary pitch

Hey, I was initially disappointed, but I came around like 24-48 hrs later after reading up on him lol.

From ESPN:

27. Chicago Cubs: Ryan Jensen, RHP, Fresno State

Who is Jensen? The No. 32 player on Keith Law's draft board, Jensen has a big-time fastball that sits at 97-99 mph but lacks a strong second pitch.

Why the Cubs took him here: Drafting and developing pitchers hasn't exactly been a strength for the Cubs during the Theo Epstein era. In Jensen, Chicago is betting on the heat of an undersized right-hander who has started in college but could end up in a major league bullpen. -- Mullen

Yeah, I overstate my feelings about this horsefeathers. Well, not really when it comes to disliking pitchers. Maybe they'll finally bring an impact arm to the big leagues all the way through the system. In the end, I know it's largely a crapshoot.

I think pitcher health is largely a crapshoot (even pitchers with smooth mechanics get hurt), but I believe some teams are legitimately better at scouting/developing pitchers like the Braves.

I should've added, "for the Cubs especially" at the end.

There's a stages of grief reaction every time the Cubs reach for these mediocre college arms dozens of spots higher than they're ranked. It goes "Maybe they're smarter than everyone else" to "He must be an underslot pick, they're saving for later" to "They just suck at drafting pitchers."

Every time? When's the last time?

2017.

Not that long ago. To be fair, they didn't exactly reach on the two pitchers they selected that year. Just bad picks in retrospect.

Yeah those are not at all the same. Those two were picked right where they were supposed to, it just didn't work out.

Abbot wasn't in anybody's top 100 that I remember, for starters. Little wasn't ranked as high as he was drafted either. Pretty much Lange was the only on who wasn't a reach.

Irrespective, their track record with college pitchers is truly grisly. They really need to try another tack.
