Nagy came out strongly in the Athletic that he's playing it straight up for the win. Too lazy to go back and look for the link.

Now, he could just be saying that, but it sure sounded like he will be aggressively trying for the win.

I believe he came out strongly about playing it straight prior to week 16. There was an argument that the Bears could have coasted yesterday (they kind of did) but Nagy didn't want that to happen. I haven't seen anything about going all out this week.

Washington cut DJ Swearinger because of his post-game critical comments of the play-calling. If for some reason Jackson can't return it's a no brainer (I believe Swearinger is a SS and Jackson a FS but I'll be honest I don't know how much that matters), but I'd be interested in pursuing even if they are confident Jackson can return for the playoffs just for depth.

Matt Nagy: Bears not in position to rest starters in Week 17

“If we were in a position where you can’t move at all seed-wise and you were just locked in, then I think that’s something [resting starters] that you have to discuss,” Nagy said. “But we’re not in that position. So we have to play to win, and I kind of like that. I don’t mind that at all, and I think that our guys kind of like it. It just kind of keeps you going if you were fortunate enough to make it to the playoffs. It keeps you going in that rhythm.”

Wow..

Yea I don't know how much the FS/SS thing matters. Fwiw, Amos was listed as the FS yesterday and Bush the SS.

A claiming team on Swearinger has control left too? Forgetting this year, could be a cheap Amos plug for next year?

Swearinger would be a luxury.

But the Al Swearengen jokes would be awesome.

Yes. And I'd love to have him for next year. Though I'd imagine the Bears won't go after him. 4th team in 6 years. They won't tolerate bad mouthing the team.

That being said, someone will claim him with a worse record than the Bears.

Amos did play FS yesterday. He was in the deep middle most of the day, with Bush closer to the LOS. Looked like they took Bush out for Toliver a lot too.

Didn't realize this but Mitch has won 7 starts in a row. Conceivably would be 8 straight for him and 9 for the team had he played vs the Giants.

In those 7 games, he's had 4 QB ratings over 100. In the 3 games he wasn't that good, the defense didn't allow a TD in the first 54 minutes of the game.

The neurotic meatball in me doesn’t like the karma of not trying vs the Vikings and then letting them waltz into the playoffs and beating us next week. It would be eerily similar to the way things turned out in 2010 with Green Bay.

But also that’s irrational superstitions. I dunno. I hate the set up all around, I’ll be uncomfortable with basically any outcome until the Bears get out of the Wild Card round.

I think the worst case scenario is actually trying and getting beat, which is conceivable in a road game against a good team. Granted getting them at home the next week, but I'd rather have them coming off fake momentum of beating second stringers rather than beating the Bears straight up.

I doubt he’d have much reason to badmouth Vic Fangio and the Bears play calling. Go get him.

Sounds like Arizona claimed him

AKA why the Bears never really had a chance here. 25 teams were never going to pass on him.

Will Bellamy and Millers ejections carry over to this weeks game?
Nah. They'll get fined and it'll be done

Same here, just don't think this Vikings team is as good as the 2010 Packers, there's no Super Bowl run in these Vikings.

Is Mitch going to manage to break any Bears single season passing records despite missing the two games?

I know era/rules are a significant factor here, but when is the last time they had a (mostly) full time starter finish a season with a 90+ passer rating?

edit - that was a dumb question bc i'm pretty sure cutler did it with gase. if i had to guess, before that it might go all the way back to kramer's big year in 95 (was it?)

Seems like there are a couple but not the counting number records

Passing Yards

Current: Erik Kramer - 3,838

Mitch: 3,060

Needs: 778 yards

Mitch projected over 16 games: 3,766

Passing TDs

Current: Kramer - 29

Mitch: 24

Needs: 5

Mitch projected over 16 games: 30

Passing Attempts

Current: Jay Cutler - 561

Mitch: 408

Needs: 153

Mitch over 16 games: 502

Passing Completions

Current: Cutler - 370

Mitch: 271

Needs: 99

Mitch over 16 games: 334

Yards Per Attempt

Current: Sid Luckman - 10.8

Mitch: 7.8

300 yard passing games

Mitch is tied for most with 4

Completion Percentage (minimum 200 attempts)

Current: Brian Hoyer (really) - 67%

Mitch: 66.4%

Someone else will have to do the math and what he needs to pass

QB Rating (minimum 200 attempts)

Current: Josh McCown - 109.0

Current with more than 225 attempts: Mitch Trubisky 96.0

Is 200 attempts what the league uses as the threshold for rate based records?

Not sure it just sounded like a nice even number, but McCown only started 5 games that year (and played 8 games total) so I hesitate to consider him the legit leader there which is why I included Mitch

There's a lot of "fun" stats when you look at what his climb up the all time Bears passing stats will be. He's 37 TDs away from 3rd, will take a couple of more years after that to take down Luckman and Cutler though. Only 1,001 yards from entering the top 10 and 66 from catching Kyle Orton for 16th. 54 more completions away from Rex Grossman and entering the top 10 there.

I still find it crazy that the biggest loss was 7 points and they technically ended that game at the 1 yard line.

Mark of a really good team. Really good teams blow out their fair share of teams, and they only lose close games. The only other team without a loss by more than 7 is the Chiefs (Saints lost Week 1 by 8). Interestingly enough, the Bears and Chiefs both have losses by 1, 3, 3, and 7 points.
