6 championships the last 28 years

lol

yeah this is one of the silliest statements I've ever seen on NSBB, sorry Wilson

An organization is more than just a GM and a President. Same ownership group over that time. If we are comparing the Bulls to organizations that have been run poorly in the short term and the long term, it’s not wrong to bring up the Bulls’ success from the 90s.

What horrible moves have the Bulls made? They have drafted well, built a practice facility close to downtown to try to draw FAs, make a ton of money, traded Butler, had bad luck with Rose’s injuries, and just can’t get a star to come to Chicago. The only faults I give the Bulls recently is hanging onto Forman too long and trading Aldridge. Other than that, they’ve been as successful as can be in the LeBron era.

I don't follow the Bulls much at all, but how are GarPax still around? How many coaches do they get to hire/fire?

This is Boylan's second stint as coach, right?

No, this interim coach is Jim Boylen, different from the Jim Boylan that was interim head coach 10 years ago.

Is this the worst run organization in pro sports?

6 championships the last 28 years, best record in the league with Rose recently, got rid of Butler at the right time, drafted pretty well for where they were at, and have been at the top of league attendance total for years. Weren’t winning in the East with LeBron. The Bulls have a solid core right now too.

yeah. i don't love paxson, but i think he's about replacement level, maybe even a little above. they've had some pretty good draft picks throughout his tenure. did a good job making the best of striking out on the big guys in 2010. etc. nothing you can really do about not being able to luck into a generational talent, and i firmly believe that that part of building an nba team is almost entirely luck driven.

i'd rather have someone smarter and more analytically minded running the basketball operations, but i really don't see him as a disastrously bad executive like some are portraying him as. i know there've been some procedural missteps though and stuff like that.

edit - somehow glossed over the 6 championship mention in the quoted post. that's silly.

My co worker was so confused when I explained this to him today.

Yea there probably isn't a ton wrong with Pax, it's just a giant cluster f of a organizational setup.

That's fine, but as President of the Arbitrary End Points Fan Club, even I think this is way too selective of sampling. In 20 years they've won 0 titles, 0 conference titles and appeared in 1 conference finals. Their record in those 20 years is 741-875, so they've been playing 37 win ball over the last 2 decades. They have not been the worst organization in basketball, not even close, but they are not close to the best either. Do you think a Blue Jays fan is grouping their 90s championships into their evaluations of their franchise?

This move is dumb. I'm not sure whether Hoiberg is a good coach or not. And I think that it's very fair to have this opinion. First, he was given a roster that was damn near the opposite of what he'd want for his offense. Then, they went young and to this point, Lauri and Dunn played ONE game this season lol. Portis and Valentine have played extremely little and none.....

So, how do you judge him fairly? My gut tells me he's nothing special, but it's still dumb to get rid of him at this point. Especially since it seems like they're doing it to win more games right now, which is just horsefeathering stupid.

umm if you build a roster that doesnt fit your coach, you get rid of the coach 100 percent of the time.

No, they've got the roster more set up for him now. They HIRED him with a roster that wasn't a fit at all.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Not saying the Bulls are a great organization, but they are not bottom of the barrell like one poster said.

No the Blue Jays are not a well-run organization currently, but if I was comparing them to other historically bad organizations, I dont see why you can’t consider the Jays’ history.

The organization is more than a President and GM, but nobody in the organization remains from the 98 championship, so they don't get credit for it.

No organization has let their current President/GM preside over such a long period of absolute ineptitude from top to bottom like the Bulls continue to do. Give them a longer leash for the unfortunate bus8ness with Rose, sure, but since the first injury they've struggled to make even one good move, from selling Butler for 25 cents on the dollar, to giving away second round picks as if they're meaningless, to trading up for McDermott, to failing to tank well enough last season to get one of the blue chips, to resigning Payne and Valentine, to letting Nwaba walk for nothing, to bringing in a coach to run an uptempo offense with a mismatched roster, then firing the coach the day after they finally get the roster he wanted.

The Kings and Knicks are the poster choldren for bad management , but at least they knew enough to clean out the front office when things weren't working.

If your GM builds a roster that doesn't fit the philosophy / style of the coach that was hired by that same GM, then your GM is a moron and should be fired.

I can understand the firing, he's not a NBA coach (I'm aware Garpax gave him crap), I don't understand how Boylan locked up the gig already for next year.

He didn't, Boylen did.

But seriously, maybe they feel like that's the scenario where they can get away with a lane duck situation and save some money in what should continue to be a couple worthless tank seasons anyways, then go big in 2021?

There's very little difference between an interim head coach/manager, and one who gets a contract through the following season. Either way, the organization isn't showing much faith or commitment to the guy.

It is kind of weird though. Reports had just surfaced that Hoiberg was being evaluated on his job this much, which if you remember started 3 days ago. Wonder if Hoiberg didn't like this much and forced the issue now. Maybe gives him a leg up to angle for a nice college job.

Oh and shout out to my brother who has the be the only person who still cares about this team (seriously hasn't missed a game in like 6 years) and seems very happy with the news. This one's for you.

even my dad has mostly checked out on the Bulls, and he's retired and the alternative for him is watching house remodeling shows.

I know I had a typo, but I don't know if I should understand this joke.

Definitely not. It's a bad joke.

But for the good of us all, here is Chill Duck:

so this is what, the fifth head coaching hire that Paxson will preside over since he's been here? how many more will he be able to preside over before he finally retires, since everyone knows he has the longest leash imaginable? 6? 7? 10?

This organization has been a complete joke for the better part of 20 years. I really don't think that's going to change any time soon with the same power structure still in place for the foreseeable future either.

The article from The Athletic today about this really swung me from there was no reason not to let him finish the season to he had to go now.

That was great reporting by Darnell Mayberry. GarPax should be out on their asses too, but the firing makes more sense now.
