Assuming that we’ve seen the last of Addison Russell, how would we feel about a reunion with the guy he bumped out of town?

We know he’s for sale, but would he be worth the Marlins generally high asking price?

Maybe build something around Happ or Almora?

Given the reasons why Russell likely won't be back as a Cub, that you're suggesting they go after someone who was accused of sexual assault is beyond trash.

This is more the attitude I expected there to be around here about this guy (and deservedly so)

Would I want Starlin Castro on the team given the things he's been accused of personally? No.

Would I want to trade for him given that he's been a slightly below average second baseman for multiple years and hits right handed like all of our other IF options? Also no.

Would I take him for free considering he makes 11 million dollars this year and 8+ million towards the tax? No again.

I was definitely way too willing to shrug that kind of thing off.

I was definitely way too willing to shrug that kind of thing off.

That was certainly an easier thing to do given the circumstances.

The police investigated it and determined that there wasn't enough evidence to charge him with a crime, and the accuser didn't come forward in any sort of public way. Just about every other major situation in since then across MLB and other sports has involved criminal charges, public evidence (e.g., photos or videos), public statements from accusers or a combination of the three.

The Starlin case was similar to Jung Ho Kang's, which I admittedly forgot about until just now.

Personally, I'm not placing too much faith in the Chicago police/justice system back in 2012 to look all that hard in taking down a Cubs player who, at the time, was looked at as a big part of the future of the franchise. Even just in "normal" sexual assault cases, too often charges or prosecution aren't pursued largely because if it comes down to what the victim says happens, then that's decided it's not enough.

To me, this says it all what people's priorities were regarding an athlete accused of sexual assault 6 years ago:

In a telephone interview Friday, Paul Kinzer, Castro’s agent, said Castro was “very happy” to learn that prosecutors had decided against charges.

"We just want to move on,” Kinzer said. “Starlin doesn’t want it to be a distraction for he or the team.

“He’s a remarkable young guy,” he added. “You see how he’s playing. He’s doing great.”

Through 14 games this year, Castro is batting .352 with 7 RBIs. Last season he led the National League in hits and was named to his first All-Star team.

The Cubs issued a statement from general manager Jed Hoyer expressing relief that the controversy was over.

“We’re pleased for Starlin that this issue is resolved and glad that he can continue to keep his focus on baseball activities,” Hoyer said.

"Starlin." is the appropriate thread title as i knew what LLF was probably going to say and pretty much stopped reading after that

Oh I agree: I have absolutely zero confidence in any authority figure in the City of Chicago. Was just saying that there was a lot less room for public uproar given the circumstances. That in addition to the fact that we tend to look at things with a more careful eye in 2018.

Given the reasons why Russell likely won't be back as a Cub, that you're suggesting they go after someone who was accused of sexual assault is beyond trash.

i agree, but didn't you love starlin long after those allegations? even when he sucked, i seem to remember everyone on here thinking he was fun and likable or whatever
