If someone could prove collusion by the owners, would that fall under the Sherman Anti Trust Act?

Violation of the Sherman Act is a felony punishable by a fine of up to $10 million for corporations, and a fine of up to $350,000 or 3 years imprisonment (or both) for individuals, if the offense was committed before June 22, 2004. If the offense was committed on or after June 22, 2004, the maximum Sherman Act fine is $100 million for corporations and $1 million for individuals, and the maximum Sherman Act jail sentence is 10 years.

Pretty sure MLB is still exempt from that. But they’d get some big fines as per CBA

I am pretty sure the collusion language is in the CBA because of Drysdale and Koufax both holding out the same year. So the owners wanted it included and the players said yes as long as it went both ways

I've fallen into my yearly early season trap of discounting the brewers, but the cardinals kinda freak me out. Their offense is stacked and I think fangraphs is unnecessarily low on their pitching.

Until we sign Harper or machado and/or see a healthy bryant in spring training, the cardinals may be the nl central faves

Bleacher Report, but...

Cubs Biggest Loser?

Awesome...now lets see the projected WAR from returning players.

I assume Cole Hamels gives you $20m worth

By the calculation that uses total money spent on free agents as the denominator, and usually gets to about $8-$9m per win, he does. But my new way of looking at it, where $20m to Cole Hamels is infinitely better than $20m to Tom Ricketts or some Republican PAC, he definitely does.

We have the same amount of players as them projected for 3+ WAR (KB, Rizzo, Javy And Schwarbs vs Goldschmidt, Dejong, Carpenter and Ozuna) more than them over 4 (Rizzo And KB vs Goldschmidt) and the only one at 5+ in KB. We also project for more offensive WAR 28.1 vs 25.8 and their entire rotation is full of question marks. Martinez, Wacha and Reyes off injuries (all 3 have been hurt every year the last few years as well), Wainwright’s corpse, Flaherty (who I think is good) and Mikolas who are a bit unproven. Idk, they have more question marks than us in the rotation. Probably more upside but more downside and volatility. Imo.

Carpenter at 3B could be a disaster as well, he can’t really throw and Ozuna is coming off a shoulder surgery and allegedly is behind for swinging and throwing already.

Cubs Biggest Loser?

Biggest losers on the margin for error amongst division favorites, sure. Still the best team in the division though. Sooo....

How can they "still" be the best team in the division when they weren't the best team in the division last time it was competed?

He's posted decent numbers. Not a bad low-cost signing. Since that's all we're allowed to have.

Does this mean we can just DFA Kintzler? He's worse than Barnette and Brach and half the guys on the Iowa shuttle.
