First place.

Best record in the NL.

Cards aren't back in it.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

We’re really still saying this?

I was assuming each line was sarcastic

Ding, ding, ding, ding.

I'm sure the Cubs will soon put up like 40+ runs in a 6 game stretch, thus "evening things out" and making their offense look less schizophrenic.

And the pitching will go to crap again.

Good news: Rizzo will dong next inning.

Bad news: That will be our only run.

I mean, it was an easy one to predict but I’m still going to take credit for it.

I said it earlier but the Cubs will roll tomorrow, 11-2.

Murphy will play and be 0-4. 3 K and leave 4 guys on base. Most in scoring position.

How much of this season being no fun is that the Cubs have been so bad in stretches, versus baseball itself just being bad and boring with the lack of action? Is this just what baseball is now? Even when the Cubs were awful in previous years, I can't remember periods like this where every game was maddening to watch. I'm sure it is partially an overaction to the moment, but I do think MLB has a problem.

baseball is all about dingers and strikeouts now, which is like the opposite of chili ball

It's overly simplistic, but the Cubs' main problem offensively really is as simple as they don't hit for enough horsefeathering power. Their team BA and OBP have been in the top 2 in all of baseball basically all year, but their slugging is down to #11 and plummeting. Throw in the bizarre cherry on top of how for 3 of 4 seasons they've been near the bottom in being able to capitalize on having guys on 3B with 1 or no outs, and you've got a really annoying recipe for not being able to really take advantage of how often they can get on base. These humps would have been running away with the division for a while now even only if they weren't still inexplicably 22nd in dongs.

Nah, we’ll roll tomorrow, Murphy will have a solid game and all the sportswriters will write their [expletive] stories about how Murphy’s presence sparked the offense. Then we’ll get shut down on Thursday.

Slugging

2017 .407 for 26th in baseball

2018 .460 for 1 in baseball

I’m sure JD Martinez doesn’t account for all of that but..

Actually Daniel Murphy. He now leads the team in slugging

We've scored like negative 5 runs a game for the better part of 2 weeks, that would be horsefeathering annoying to watch whether it was dongs or 'productive outs' or wild pitches bringing in those negative 5

Are you expecting 10 RBI from Murphy?

Honestly, I'm still not worried at all. It's been incredibly frustrating, but moreso that we haven't taken advantage and run away with the division. The rest of the NL sucks and we still have a little buffer with our lead. We are more talented than the Brewers and the Cardinals. The Cardinals are the bigger worry at this point, but they also have a much tougher schedule.

It's stupid that it's even gotten to this point. But I still believe in the players on the roster. The offense has stagnated, but they've done this same horsefeathers before. They just need to kick it into gear before it's too late. The pitching has at least turned a corner with the addition of Hamels. If the bats get going, we'll be able to pile up some wins. I really feel like we need to add another starter -- whether it's Shields or Harvey or Clayton Richard or whoever. But if we are assured of Tyler Chatwood not starting games, I still think we are heavy favorites to win the division.

Frustrating and ugly. But we're also fortunate that we're still in a good spot.
