Also, while I don’t agree with Daniel Murphy’s thoughts at all, I think a vast majority of meathead athletes feel the same way. Doesn’t make it right, but if all the homophobic baseball players were kicked out of the league, there would probably be 5 teams left.

Sucks, but true.

Yeah, but the fact that Murphy spoke publicly about it and potentially made it harder on closet gay teammates (not to mention gay fans) puts him in a different class of awful.

I’m not sure what I’m missing here. The remarks linked suggested that while he has different viewpoints he saw value “investing relationally” with people he disagrees with. That doesn’t sound homophobic at all. Quite the opposite. Totally different mindset than Hader and others.

Yeah, I don't have high hopes for many of these guys, but he vocalized, and thus proved beyond any doubt, that he's a POS. And he did this pre-Trump. People who are willing to say bad things often believe even worse things.

There aren't viewpoints to have.

He said he disagreed with the lifestyle.

A) It's not a lifestyle

B) There is nothing to agree or disagree to

It's how bigots used to soft touch their bigotry. Nowadays most of 'em don't even think you need to bother hiding it.

I hope you’ll engage me via private message. I’m genuinely interested in deeper understanding.

I’ll share the same private message with you. I’ll encourage anyone else to reach out to me the same way. I don’t want to dance on the edge of Tim’s zero tolerance policy any further. I’m perfect happy to engage in dialogue though.

is pretty cool, especially when you don't think about defense or people who disagree with the gay lifestyle.

why wouldn't you have bryant at 3B, murphy at 2b, and zobrist in rf?

i'm pretty sure murphy can't even throw a ball from 3b to 1b

This is probably a meatball take, but I'll take Bote over Murphy at third base if you factor in defense.

To the extent Russell is/was still a full time starter, just platoon him with Murphy going forward, and don't change much else.

Back to the baseball side of things, he will make the lineup significantly tougher. I'd have to imagine he'll play against most every righty. With Bryant back soon, the ideal lineup starts to get ridiculously deep:

RF - Zobrist

2B - Murphy

3B - Bryant

1B - Rizzo

SS - Baez

LF - Schwarber

C - Contreras

CF - Heyward

Against lefties you can swap out Almora for Schwarbs and Bote/Russell for Murphy. OF defense becomes Zo, Almora, Heyward.

boom.

Because I didn't think about it very much.

EDIT: Full disclosure: I finished my first draft and realized I didn't have a 2B, so I just threw Zobrist in.

so, your first draft didn't include the cubs most consistent hitter?

I know what you are saying, but to make my counter-point clear, I would be a VERY consistent hitter in the major leagues.
