Currently getting over my LAST chemo treatment. Thank goodness. Decided to not even watch this game as the movie I was watching finished shortly after the top of the first. Instead fell asleep. Woke up to see 7-3 score. Fell back asleep. Woke up to a text saying, “I can’t believe we pulled that one out!”

Glad I didn’t watch this horsefeathers*, tbh.

*I actually typed the word “horsefeathers”.

baseball is stupid fun. Derwood, eat horsefeathers!

It got lost at the bottom of page 6.

Funny how the Cubs started the rally after the soccer game was over. It’s like you could have watched two awesome things happen!

Can you watch it being over though? It's just over - can't really "see" that. :dontknow:

As mentioned previously, focus can be put on the pitching. But the Cubs offense this season is a joke. The season stats really don’t show how awful the offense can be over the course of several games so often this season

I know, I know. Wait until the second half.

The Cubs offense has scored 80 runs over the last 10 games, and leads the league in OBP.. The Royals have scored 67 runs over their past 30 games.

Wait until the second half nothing, this is easily the best offense in the NL right now.

Oh yeah, they've also done all that without the best player in the NL.

Javy now hitting .294 with an OPS just below .900 and is on pace for 32 HR and 119 RBI this year. He’d better make the All star team in some capacity

And in the ten games before the last ten, they scored 29 runs. Not very impressive. Which is why my original post stated that "stats really don’t show how awful the offense can be over the course of several games so often this season."

Honestly, just let him wear it today. Keep him out there til his arm falls off. I’m so sick of this horsefeathers taxing our bullpen.

this was a good call

It is almost as of the Cubs are not capable of scoring runs at will, and that their massive amount of runs scored over the course of the season are nearly randomly distributed across all of their games! What a joke offsense, indeed!

Bringing it up now, like this evening? Or now, like today during the game?

The Cubs had a nice win streak going and were scoring runs. With an offense that we as fans expect, and an offense the Cubs should have, IMO, more often. Then the high powered Reds come to town and once again, the offense goes flat with 2 runs against.....some guy.

So today’s game is going on, and the predictable suckiness of Chatwalk has put me and everyone else in the game thread in a sh!tty mood. And it appears that Matt Harvey will hold the Cubs in check. Again.

So my comment during the game when they were down 7-3 was out of frustration and a bit of an overreaction, especially given the offensive output over the past week+ (against some poor teams). And then it was pointed out later that the Cubs have scored 80 runs in the past 10 games. Great. Ill-timed over reaction.

The reality, though, is the Cubs offense has been Jeckyl and Hyde all season. And, IMO, the stretches of incompetent offense given their talent happens way too often this first half of the season. And maybe it skews the stats just a bit. So they scored 80 runs in their last 10. And only 29 in the 10 prior. Not real good.

Anyway, there’s plenty of knee-jerk reactions during game threads. Some steeped in sarcasm. Some in frustration. Some in reality. And some a mix.

Red Sox leads MLB in runs per game with 5.25. From June 7th to 16th (10 games), they scored 29 runs. Astros from April 6th to 16th scored 27 with an 8 and 5 run game in that stretch. Indians scored 29 from April 1st to 11th. Yankees had a 32 run stretch from June 6th to 17th.

Cubs do have a 24, 27, and 29 runs 10 game stretch already. So yes, it is a little Jeckyl and Hyde compared to the 4 teams above. Despite all that, Cubs are 1st in NL and tied for 4th in MLB in runs per game. They're like 15 games over .500. Could they be better by being more consistent at scoring runs? Sure, but it's baseball. Stretches like this IS going to happen.

Those teams are also doing that with a DH.

Obviously...but it’s definitely tougher to score in the NL with more unique situations.
