Duke is, like, reverse Kyle-ing right now

Just stating facts. I think it's odd people hate the best Cubs' teams of their lifetimes.

Also a fact: this team was a massively not fun suckfest in the first half last year. By the end, the NLCS run was awesome, and as a whole, the year was a success. But to pretend that on a day-to-day basis the team was fun to watch is revisionist history.

And despite the good overall record/pace right now, the team is not fun to watch as often as it is a blast to watch

I do wonder if that's because we have quickly become spoiled, which is a good thing because it means the foundation is strong.

For instance, 2015 was fun because we were good again for the first time, but we were 40-35 at the end of June and the offense sucked a lot. It scored three or fewer runs 50.6 percent of the time through 75 games, which is .6 percent more than this season. But........being five games over made it fun to follow and watch because just being relevant mattered.

Then 2016, and well, it didn't suck very much.

At that point, we were expecting a 105-win Super Team in 2017 and probably 2018, too. So when we enter with Super Team expectations, it's going to likely fall short. It doesn't mean they have to be this boring for this long on offense, but I do wonder if we had sucked the last few seasons just how boring we'd all think this is right now.

Like Sofa, not sure what the hell I'm even talking about. Except, I actually understand what he was trying to get at a few posts above. So, really, I'm the only one who doesn't know what the hell I'm even talking about.

Also, I still want Machado, and I want Dexter back on the team for the fun of it.

If the Brewers were playing at an 85-win pace, no one would be bitching about this Cubs team.

I take that back; it wouldn't be as bad. But everyone is spoiled from the title like Bryant's Disco Ball said.

I think it's pretty simple; the Cubs are a good team, but we wanted/expected the post-WS Cubs to look more like the Astros given how young they were/are and how little the team has changed.

It's less thinking they suck and more that it's reasonable to think they should be (somewhat significantly) better.

I just don’t like the inconsistency of mostly the offense. In 2016, I was never phased when the Cubs got down by even several runs. I knew the could, and did, score in bunches. But this year, when they get down by even a run early, I feel like they may not win because shutouts seem pretty common. That’s what bugs me about the RD. Great! Their run diff is high. Unfortunately, so are instances of scoring two or fewer runs. So when they win, they win by a lot. And when they lose, I guess it matters th st the games are often close. Maybe this will even out as the season progresses.

Also, I hate the fact that so very often they are dominated by garage pitchers.

That is all.

I hate how people attack RD like it’s a fraud. All it is is a evaluating and predicting tool. The Cubs (still) have a good RD which means they are a good team but doesn’t tell the entire story

I feel like I'm pretty much the only person "attacking" it here, and even that that's almost totally tongue in cheek.

The Astros comparisons are where I am at.. They seem to hit and pitch well all the damn time.. We are doing neither and the staff is a major concern and will be until October

Aren’t ALL stats evaluating and predicting tools? And no stat by itself tells the whole story, right?

When we're having this much freaking trouble scoring runs, the other team shouldn't be allowed to make great defensive plays too.
