My Turing machine has now run 8 million simulations of this game, and so far there are 0 in which we score a run.

UPDATE: In simulation 10,428,619 Justin Wilson hits an inside-the-park home run in the 8th to make the score 5-1.

It's time like this when that run differential really, really makes me irrationally angry.

thats dumb though? what does the run differential have to do with anything

He might be saying that although our RD is really good, it seems like it's built on huge blowouts but in reality we have a weird amount of high crap games where we are just awful on offense and it skews the greatness of our RD.

But that's probably not what he's saying and that's just what I'm thinking at the current moment.

The Cubs have scored 19 total runs over the first 26 outs of the game in their last 11 games and 15 runs from the 27th out on.

I know this is major random sample size and I am not saying anything with this stat other than how frustrating it is to watch the Cubs over the first 2.5+ hours of every game recently.

Just for visual sake here are their runs scored over the first 8.2 IP of a game during that stretch:

1

2

1

3

4

0

0 (so far today)

And after 8.2 IP:

I mean, that's kinda exactly my irrational thought process right there. "This dumb useless stat clearly just padded by insane blowout wins can go and get fucked; this offense obviously sucks."

I think the run differential shows the Cubs are good, which they are. They just dont like scoring runs in the first 6 innings, for some reason

Yeah, you start questioning all the things that you believe now because of advanced stats. Like, I rationally know clutch doesn't exist, and players don't 'try harder' when it matters, or whatever. But you go down this road that eventually leads to all the morons on twitter being like 'oh who gives about that sweep? It's just the Reds/White Sox/Marlins/Pirates/Padres/Mets/half of baseball'

I think it would be much more understandable if our offense was like the Mets or something, where you know they suck and it's expected they will suck.

It's just so interesting when you have a squad full of what are high level, dynamic offensive players and they just don't do anything for long stretches at a time and even during a five or six game span when they aren't facing anything but middle of the road type pitchers.

Cubs/brewers are mostly the same. Low scoring suck fests where the cubs win late because the brewers do dumb things. Let’s get to the dumb brewers part

I am not really confident getting one off of these guys today.

Can someone explain why Gimenez is batting still

One of Maddon's best qualities is managing players for a seven month season, but with this obviously being a Contreras day off after the night game/having to deal with Chatwood and him giving KB this 'mini break', think we're working with a pretty short bench today. Given our odds to make the postseason, I get it, but I'm pretty sure Lester is our third PH off the bench today.
