From MLBTR:

The Cubs have designated outfielder Efren Navarro for assignment, tweets Carrie Muskat of MLB.com. In his stead, the club has selected the contract of catcher Chris Gimenez. Fellow catcher Victor Caratini has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a related move.

We bring up Gimenez to fix Darvish, but apparently he's a little late.

We've been due for one of these. Haven't had a big one since Garza, right?

Rondon and Neli Ramirez are the only guys from the ML roster I can really think of under Theo having arm injuries.

I thought he was shaking his arm a lot in his start in Cincinnati.

I’ve seen him do that in almost every start going back to spring so just figured it was a thing he did, but who knows

So, assuming the worst here, how franchise altering is this? another tommy john would mean darvish is done as a frontline guy. that's a lot of years and money tied up in him and heyward

This is usually a bad thing, isn’t it?

What’s bizarre is I felt his stuff the last two starts looked like normal (pre-Cub) Yu Darvish.

Obviously with pitchers, who the horsefeathers knows, and guys still pitch through these things frequently. Or maybe it happened in a side session, etc.

But this timing is odd.

Yeah idk, hopefully it’s more precautionary than anything and if it is something hopefully they caught it early to mitigate it being a bigger thing.

They've still got the best set of position players in the game and all the money they want. I'm not any more worried than always, mostly because I always assume these things are about to happen. Pitchers are stupid.

I did notice that too now that you mention it.

But he was still throwing 96 mph darts and wipeout breaking balls. Weird.

The fact that it's backdated is an encouraging sign, but a triceps injury for a guy who's already had TJ is always acary.

She went on to correct herself and say triceps. We’ll see if it’s so minor that he only misses 2 starts.

If it’s something serious I hope he/they don’t horsefeathers around with it though and try to do that PRP injection stuff and just opt for surgery to get it out of the way.

I know it’s easy to say on a message board to “just get surgery” but that injection procedure never seems to work.
