If we were just average at getting runners home from 3rd with less than 2 outs instead of dead last for like the 3rd consecutive year we’d be unstoppable

Seriously, why have they been so horsefeathering bad at this for so long. It should basically be a gimme for a team that's usually so good.

It’s so odd that it hasn’t evened out from last year since it’s a thing that seems to fluctuate for no reason year to year

I feel like a moron asking this but..how do we get better at this?

I'm bored so I went to check, thinking back to last year when Riz led off because our offense sucked. We actually didn't go more than four straight games scoring three runs or fewer, although we did have a stretch late in the season when we scored three or fewer in seven of eight.

I also seem to remember our offense sucking for much of the first half of 2015 before going bonkers, although my memory might suck.

All of which means eventually they will start scoring again.

That's....absurd. That's the height of baseball being baseball. I hate it and want to hit it with a shovel.

I'm sure Duker can give a better breakdown. My simplistic one is they get better by scoring runs from third with less than two outs more often then they have the past few seasons.

I think it’s just a really weird outlier thing, I mean we are going to be near the top of the league in OBP so the chances are going to be more frequent (so rate stats could be less but we could still end up getting guys in plenty often on just a total surface number). But we shouldn’t be this bad and I don’t know how you “fix it.” It seems like a thing you don’t want to overly talk with guys about and make it a mental thing or whatever.

Let's fire the hitting coach.

Oh. Then I don't know.

When do we honestly start talking about Happ going down?

Thought he should’ve gone down to make room for Zobrist and then kept Bote up. Guy needs to go hit the reset button in Iowa.

I mean, they can't get any worse, so I'd like to think they're not doing that.

Yeah I mean I’d assume and hope it’s talked about, just don’t know how much you want to keep it in guys heads if they feel there’s nothing crazy going on with approaches and it’s better to just assume it will turn and it’s a process vs results thing (but obviously we have the long track record so who horsefeathering knows).

I hope they stay 30th in that stat forever just to annoy people who care about it.
You don't find it meaningful?

I think it’s meaningful but you don’t have much control over it. If you have good hitters they should generally hit how they normally hit with RISP and bad hitters should do the same and I believe we have mostly good hitters.

The difference between the Cubs and league average last year, across the Cubs' number of chances, was 10.7 runs. And that's partially because the Cubs are awesome at hitting and get more chances than the average team. The difference across the average number of chances would have been closer to 9.

Just hit like one extra dinger every 35 games or so and you can erase it.
