I don’t know how you track this but I am assuming Cubs vs Rockies has created the most weird games in MLB history. Maybe it’s because we both play in weird parks Edited by bcl412

We miss Kluber and Carrasco in Cleveland, which is a nice break. Hopefully they at least split then go take care of the VBs next weekend to get something rolling off this nice road series win.

By the way, At Rockies responded to me and a bunch of other Cubs fans bitching about the Bryant HBP. None of us tagged the Rockies twitter account. Freaking weirdos running that account.

I knew it had been bad for Justin Grimm, but I didn't know he'd been relegated to Rockies' social media guy.

From the sounds of it with post game tweets and interviews it seems like Bryant is mostly fine, thank god. He’s flying with the team and still no concussion worries. Still wouldn’t be surprised if he’s given a day or two off here or maybe just DH’s to ease him back.

Haha! Made even better by the outrage from the Rockies announcers. God they are annoying.

All the sweeter when you add the manner in which they were talking prior and during the bottom of ninth.

Their do the players feel the same confidence we do that the Rockies are going to win this game BS. Or, during the inning break, Blackmon, Arenado, Story and more due up.

i was thinking back and remembering that yesterday felt like a really similar day (in terms of day of the week/time of year/etc) to the day sammy got hit in the head and torres shattered his helmet.

turns out it was 15 years ago almost to the day. 4/20/03. and yeah, was a sunday.

Man that really fucked Sammy up too I think

yeah i agree. maybe it was just a coincidence.

there was actually a piece on fangraphs that looked at that, the cork incident, and just plain old getting old as possible turning points that triggered his decline.

but i know he was his usual self for the 3-4 weeks of 2003 before that happened.

I remember people complaining along those lines, like, "oh, now he stands too far off of the plate," whether that was true or not. I ended up just figuring the guy probably had a bad enough concussion and had to deal with the symptoms at least for the rest of the season (though didn't he get super hot again for a few weeks later that season, too?).

Yeah hopefully this doesn't mess Kris up too much mentally at the plate, couldn't blame him if it does for a bit and obviously the big thing is hopefully there really are no concussion affects.

His dad probably flew to Cleveland though and has him in a cage today throwing balls at his head today to get him back in there.

he did seem to stand wayyy off the plate compared to before but maybe it was just my imagination

it seemed like he lost his oppo stroke after that

Dude had a 198 wRC+ before that AB with a tremendous BBK. It also mentions he had a 47 game stretch from June through July where he hit 22 bombs, so he certainly found his comfort zone again after the HBP, but he wasn't able to sustain consistency unfortunately. I'll always remember his bomb off of Urbina though. And we should have won game 1 dammit.

yes and the one that damn near hit (if it didn't) the camera shed in CF in game 2 when lofton acted animatedly amazed on the bases

I guess that still could point to a concussion, and the symptoms subsiding and returning.

I don't have an opinion on the hall of fame but I wish there were more players in his mold in this era, high OBP speedy OFs. I can even take or leave the stolen base aspect but it seems like anyone who's fast also happens to suck at getting on base. The best current example is Altuve, but he's in his own class. Outside of that...Brett Gardner? Benintendi? The good versions of Starling Marte or Odubel Herrera? It's a disappointingly small group.

I think the dude got screwed over playing in such a crazy offensive era; he ended up being overlooked and thought of as a utility-type player. And bouncing around as much he did probably helped foster that, too.

That said, I was surprised his total WAR was so high. I was thinking 50+ instead of 60+.

The best current example is Mike Trout, no?

i would say mookie betts is closer but neither has quite the SB totals and both have more power (trout much moreso)
