I'm not a doctor but,

I get going with least invasive first, but when he suffered his first setback during that initial rehab, they should have gotten more aggressive.

I guess I can buy in to that. But when you have as much invested in a guy as they do Darvish, do the right and definitive test right away if you don’t need to cut him open but agree that when he kept saying his arm hurt the whole time after the first MRI do the MRI you know will give you the answers.

Yeah, this is my take.

Pretty comical that people read a couple of things online, maybe interpret a tweet or a quote and come to the conclusion that the docs messed up. These aren’t strip mall MDs or GPs trying to make an extra buck working the evening shift at the urgent care. If a professional sports franchise is using them, they’re probably some of the best specialists in the world. Do they makes mistakes? Perhaps. But I’ll assume the correct diagnosis and procedures were done.

Maybe procedure was accurate, but obviously diagnosis was wrong.

So was this an issue from the start of the year? Can we chalk up the early performances on this?

Also, someone said he will be out until late next year. Is that accurate?

Who knows on part one, seems plausible though he had a few okay starts and the stuff/velo was mostly good. Second part it’s too early to definitively know but he said he expects to be ready to go right away in ST next year. Which if all it is, is this stress reaction and the bicep/tricep soreness he has plenty of time to rest and recover.

He essentially has shin splints in his elbow. I wouldn't be surprised if there's something mechanical that needs to change or some strengthening in another part of the arm/elbow/shoulder that needs to happen as a preventive measure. This likely isn't just a simple rest and it gets better situation.

Saw this on ESPN. Insurance money from Darvish helped pay for Murphy

"As we mentioned at the time, the Cole Hamels trade was exceptionally CBT-friendly, and therefore, we still had room under the threshold to fit Murphy," Hoyer said. "In addition, the insurance money we are receiving on Yu Darvish helped us afford Murphy's contract. But, yes, Tom [Ricketts] was very supportive of the move from a financial standpoint.

If he misses 5 years can the insurance payout pay for Harper?

I know you're joking, but I believe it sort of can. My understanding is that insurance offsets also apply to the CBT (at least in part). Specifically I think it has come up with Fielder and Wright.

Another opportunity to marvel at how much better the Brewers' off season was compared to ours.

To be fair, our offseason might well have been the worst in history by a team that was trying to win. Milwaukee didn't have a high bar.

the only chance the cubs had at losing the division was to completely and totally blow the offseason while the brewers had an amazing one, and that's exactly what happened.

The only thing that annoys me about the Brewers' moves is that they snagged Yelich. I really, really, really wanted the Cubs to end up with him once he was obviously available, and there was no reason to not go all out on him, even with the Harper plan.

Yup. I wanted him really bad and I’m sure we were in on him. The rest of the stuff it’s whatever, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say continuing every offseason with signing and depending on journeymen starters won’t work long term and hope they keep signing the Wade Miley’s of the world.
